INOVONICS SEES INCREASED MOMENTUM FOR MOBILE DURESS SYSTEMS IN HEALTHCARE MARKET

Hospitals now able to quickly locate people who are in need of assistance and take immediate action to ensure the highest quality of staff, patient and public safety

LAS VEGAS -  (ISC West, Booth #25121 ), March 28, 2012 – Inovonics (http://www.inovonics.com), the industry leader in high-performance wireless sensor networks for commercial and life safety applications, today announced that Radius® is gaining traction in the healthcare market. Radius is the security industry’s first mobile duress and situational awareness solution that utilizes Inovonics’ wireless positioning technology. Radius combines advanced location technology with the latest broadcast notification capabilities to pinpoint and communicate the location of mobile duress alarm devices, which is especially important in healthcare settings where medical staff are often spread over a great distance and in remote locations.

Hospitals around the nation are facing a growing safety concern. According to the American Nurses Association (http://www.nursingworld.org/), in 2009 more than 50 percent of emergency center nurses were assaulted on the job. There were 2,050 assaults and violent acts reported by registered nurses that resulted in an average of four missed work shifts. As a result, many hospitals are turning to wireless technologies to help prevent workplace assaults.

“At Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, we place a high degree of importance on employee safety, and initially implemented Inovonics’ mobile duress alarm system to provide staff members with a wireless panic button in case of a potentially harmful event,” explained Glen Vilhauer, operations supervisor at Avera Queen of Peace. However, “with Radius, we have been able to expand the coverage of the duress system beyond the main hospital building to outlying clinics and parking lots.  This means, our staff reaps the benefits of Radius beyond the walls of the hospital building,” said Vilhauer.

Radius monitors any Inovonics’ end device, provides immediate notification when help is needed, directs responders to the exact location of the call for help and can offer broadcast capabilities in response to widespread emergency situations. It is ideal for staff protection applications on healthcare campuses such as hospitals, emergency departments, and psychiatric wards. Radius’ broadcast capabilities also provide an important function that goes well beyond a simple alert from one individual. It can be used to signal that a larger, more widespread concern is taking place somewhere within the hospital setting thus indicating an early warning/prevention of a “lock-down” situation via the broadcast alert function. This same system can also be used to automate temperature checks for freezers and refrigerators and prevent theft of large assets.

Unlike traditional hard-wired control panel systems that have been used to detect safety issues and report alarms, Radius provides a complete end-to-end, IP-enabled wireless solution for the security market. Based on the fully supervised Inovonics wireless network, Radius can work alone or be integrated with other safety and security systems. Key features and benefits of Radius include:

  • Location: Radius allows for mobile duress applications by accurately determining where an alarm is coming from within a building or campus setting.
  • Notification: Radius coordinates event monitoring and broadcast notification. It communicates information from in-building systems and routes them to alert devices, such as pagers, emails and mobile phones using text messaging or voice mail. Radius also packages multiple in-building systems into a single notification solution allowing for more efficient and quicker responses.
  • Monitoring: Radius works with the complete line of Inovonics end devices including pendant transmitters, universal transmitters and motion detectors. It can also integrate to other existing in-building systems such as access control or environmental monitoring.

“With the Inovonics Radius system, healthcare workers can be assured that their call for help will result in immediate notification to the appropriate responders to the exact location of the emergency,” explained Mark Jarman, president of Inovonics. “As in the instance of Avera Queen of Peace, Radius does not stop at security and providing broadcast notification to staff in the event of an emergency, it can also be used to automate temperature checks for freezers and refrigerators, track large assets and prevent theft”.

Configurations, Availability and Pricing:

Radius can be used within single hospital buildings or scale to cover large multi-building healthcare campuses. It can be easily integrated with other fire and safety and security systems. It is available now and pricing varies based on customer needs and configuration. For more information, visit Inovonics website at www.inovonics.com/radius or join the conversation at www.twitter.com/inovonics.

Tasktop’s New Sync Studio Provides First Visual ALM Mapping and Monitoring Tool for ALM Architects

IT Organizations Gain New Levels of Visibility into Heterogeneous ALM Architectures to Author and Manage Task and Data Flow between Best-of-Breed ALM Tools

VANCOUVER and RESTON VA (EclipseCon 2012, Booth #25), March 27, 2012 – Tasktop Technologies (www.tasktop.com), creators of Eclipse Mylyn and a leader in Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) Automation solutions, today announced Sync Studio, an extension of its Task Federation™ platform that makes it dramatically easier for organizations to connect, configure and maintain medium- and large-scale ALM infrastructures. Offered as a new component of Tasktop Sync, Sync Studio provides visual cross-ALM system task and workflow mapping, ALM architecture design, monitoring tools to ease integration maintenance and alert notifications for project and system administrators.

“As we’ve been rolling out Tasktop Sync over the past year to IT organizations trying to automate Agile ALM and DevOps architectures across the enterprise, the process of taking inventory and managing integrations between all of their disparate tools has become extremely messy, frustrating and time-consuming,” said Mik Kersten, CEO of Tasktop Technologies and creator of the Eclipse Mylyn open source project. “Sync Studio makes it possible for software delivery organizations to gain control of this chaos by providing a single tool for viewing the design, integration and performance of today’s complex ALM architectures with an easy-to-use visual design and authoring tool.”

Tasktop continues to solve major challenges for software organizations that are implementing enterprise-wide Agile and ALM modernization initiatives by connecting both developers, through Tasktop Dev, and cross-functional enterprise teams, through Tasktop Sync, to automate the entire application lifecycle. All Tasktop products leverage the Eclipse Mylyn task-based integration framework to provide a more strategic and lightweight synchronization solution than standard REST API and pure data-store integrations. Its tools provide visibility into ALM work flow, real-time data sharing of cross-function activities and context into actual performance and business value. With Sync Studio, the company continues to help IT organizations synchronize and automate development processes to deliver market value quicker, reduce inefficiencies and promote collaboration and innovation by connecting individuals and teams across the enterprise.

“Standard integration of ALM tools is typically limited since it only addresses point-to-point functionality and can then lack the comprehensive visibility, interoperability and traceability needed for a fully synchronized ALM tool stack,” said Melinda Ballou, program director for the Application Lifecycle Management and Executive Strategies service at IDC, a research advisory firm headquartered in Framingham, MA. “With software driving innovation and with challenges resulting from complex ALM infrastructure, complex sourcing and silo-ed departments, IT organizations need to be able to architect and gain control of automated ALM solutions. This automation is sorely needed to help drive effective software delivery and competitive benefits.”

To help IT organizations scale Tasktop Sync deployments and better manage the growing number of ALM systems in a typical tool stack, Sync Studio provides a whole new set of ALM infrastructure management tools. Capabilities include:

  • A Unified View across the ALM Stack: Sync Studio presents ALM architects and administrators with a comprehensive and “live” architectural view of current tools and processes, and the associated interdependencies and roadblocks that need to be addressed.
  • Visual Mapping for ALM Administrators: Sync Studio provides automated mapping capabilities for ALM administrators to author and configure task, data and workflow connectivity and integration between ALM servers.
  • Cross-repository Monitoring and Administration: Sync Studio helps maintain the health and performance of enterprise-wide ALM architectures through the regular monitoring of inter-tool functionality and centralized administration of changes, maintenance, trouble-shooting and alert notifications.
  • End-to-end Traceability for the Lifecycle: through its Task Federation platform, Sync Studio provides complete ALM traceability that is available through the visual mapping and visibility capabilities now available in the tool.

In addition to Sync Studio, Tasktop also is introducing Tasktop Sync 2.3 with new integrations for ThoughtWorks’ Mingle and Accept360, as well as an updated Mylyn-based Sync integration for IBM Rational Team Concert. It is part of a coordinated Tasktop rollout that also includes Tasktop Dev 2.3 and builds on the new Eclipse Mylyn 3.7. Tasktop Dev now includes support for Gerrit and the Jenkins continuous integration server, and new workspace provisioning tools for HP ALM. With these additions, Tasktop now supports more than 70 ALM tools.

Availability

Tasktop Sync 2.3 with Sync Studio is being demonstrated now at EclipseCon 2012 (http://www.eclipsecon.org/2012/) and will be generally available on April 17.  Tasktop Dev 2.3 is available today.

SparkFun Electronics Goes to POSSCON to Present Ideas for Open Source Business and Technology

Lindsay Levkoff and Christopher Clark explain what it means to be an open source business and how to improve the adoption of open source technology into classrooms

BOULDER, Colo. March 23, 2012 — SparkFun Electronics (http://www.sparkfun.com), provider of parts, knowledge and passion for electronics creation, today announced its participation at the 2012 Palmetto Open Source Software Conference (POSSCON) in Columbia, S.C. POSSCON continues to bring together innovators in the open source space (technologists and managers) and provides affordable access to quality information regarding the open source movement. Two of SparkFun’s Directors, Lindsay Levkoff (Education) and Christopher Clark (IT), will be presenting at the event.

SparkFun Electronics is a rapidly growing provider of open source hardware that has prospered from a dorm room setting into a multi-million dollar company with no outside investment. “An early reliance on open source technologies enabled this growth and has now developed into an undercurrent that permeates the culture here at SparkFun,” explained Christopher Clark, director of information technology at SparkFun. Now, with an infrastructure rich in open source technology and a custom-built ERP system being gradually opened for public use, SparkFun is facing the challenge of pushing further into open source technology while mitigating risk and pressing innovation. During Clark’s presentation, he will elaborate on SparkFun’s open source business model and how the company will use open source technologies and practices to continue to innovate at many levels.

“The open source community continues to grow and it doesn’t show any signs of abating,” explains Lindsay Levkoff, director of education at SparkFun. “Not only are we proud to support the open source community through events like POSSCON, but we are excited to see this movement gain momentum in other communities, such as education.” As an educator, Levkoff wants to improve the adoption of open source technology into the classroom. This is because the open source model allows educators to bring relevant and engaging technology into the classroom, despite budget and resource restrictions. Levkoff’s presentation will include a discussion of what the Department of Education at SparkFun Electronics learned during its first year with early adopters, students, parents, educators and administrations, and how the company plans to increase the affordability and accessibility of technology for all students across multiple geographical areas.

“We’re leaders in the open source hardware movement,” continued Clark. “It applies to our products as much as our software and even applies to how we interface with our community.”

POSSCON is held at the Columbia Convention Center in downtown Columbia, S.C. from March 28-29, 2012. To learn more about Clark, Levkoff and their presentation topics at POSSCON 2012, please visit: (http://www.posscon.org/speaker/chris-clark/) and (http://www.posscon.org/speaker/lindsay-levkoff/).

TASKTOP CREATES OEM VERSION OF TASKTOP DEV FOR HP

VANCOUVER, BC, March 22, 2012 – Tasktop Technologies (www.tasktop.com), creators of Eclipse Mylyn and the leader in application lifecycle management (ALM) automation tools, today announced that a new original equipment manufacturer (OEM) version of Tasktop Dev (http://tasktop.com/support/new/index-dev22) is now embedded in HP Application Lifecycle Intelligence.

With today’s announcement, developers can now accelerate delivery of new innovative applications to the business by automatically provisioning their development environments. The collaboration capabilities provide application delivery teams with visibility, predictability and intelligence that ensure business continuity and customer satisfaction.  .

The enhanced offering enables end-to-end traceability across the application lifecycle. Developers can gain better visibility into data by breaking down information barriers with contextual reporting spanning the entire application lifecycle. The integration improves productivity with contextual information so that enables developers to view ALM artifacts in their IDE while coding tasks, requirements, defects and test results.  This results in a clear understanding of the functionality needed by the code.

With this integration, developers can now reduce cycle times and increase collaboration with the ability to automatically connect to their IDE of choice with new out-of-the-box support for Microsoft Visual Studio and Eclipse as well as a wide variety of development tools including Subversion, Concurrent Versions System (CVS), Hudson, and Jenkins. This also provides developers with access to ALM artifacts right from their IDE.

In addition, the new Tasktop Workspace Provisioning (tasktop.com/hp) technology enables developers to automatically provision development environments comprised of IDEs, SCM and build management systems to reduce time-consuming and administrative tasks that erode developer productivity.

“With the growing complexity and heterogeneous make up of today’s ALM stacks, it is imperative that developers have a single and integrated ‘pane of glass’ that keeps them connected to other stakeholders while staying focused on the flow of coding activity,” said Mik Kersten, CEO, Tasktop Technologies. “Working together with HP, we have created a seamless developer experience that brings all information connected by HP ALM into integrated development environments (IDE), from provisioning of source code for a new release to receiving a build notification from the continuous integration (CI) server of choice.”

“Application development teams need to work with their choice of tools and systems without being constrained by time-consuming, administrative development tasks,” said Matthew Morgan, senior director, Product and Solution Marketing, Software, HP.  “This solution enables developers to automatically provision development environments, while enhancing context-driven collaboration across application delivery teams. This allows them to focus on what really matters – accelerating delivery of new, innovative applications.”

Both Tasktop Dev, a developer desktop ALM integration, and Tasktop Sync, (http://tasktop.com/support/new/index-sync20) an ALM middleware integration, are built on the industry-standard, open source Eclipse Mylyn ALM interoperability framework. The Tasktop Dev Enterprise Edition (http://tasktop.com/support/new/index-dev22)  provides more than 80 additional integrations beyond what is available in the OEM version of Tasktop Dev for HP.  With Tasktop Sync, users have real-time synchronization, automatic and configurable conflict resolution, and support for more than two dozen leading Agile and ALM change management tools. Building on and extending the developer-centric Tasktop Dev experience, Tasktop Sync’s integration with HP ALM furthers collaboration in the application lifecycle by unifying heterogeneous ALM stacks. This enables developers, testers, business analysts and managers to work within their best-of-breed tools of choice, while automatically maintaining traceability across ALM artifacts.

FREEWAVE TECHNOLOGIES EXTENDS WARRANTY ON ALL FGR2, FGR2-CP AND FGR2-IO WIRELESS DATA RADIOS TO THREE YEARS

The warranty extension for products further emphasizes FreeWave’s commitment to quality and customer service

BOULDER, Colo., March 19, 2012 — FreeWave Technologies, (http://www.freewave.com), manufacturer of the most reliable, high-performance spread spectrum and licensed radios for critical data transmission, today announced that its entire FGR2, FGR2-CP and FGR2-IO family of wireless data radios as well as IO Expansion solutions now are under warranty for a period of three years from the date of purchase, beginning March 19, 2012. Previously, all of FreeWave’s wireless data radios were warrantied for only two years. The FGR2-based radio solutions, the company’s most recently introduced and highly popular product line, are a cost effective solution that enable customers to incorporate wireless communications into a wide variety of industrial applications. Its IO Expansion modules offer users a scalable solution to meet the growing demands of their automation requirements.

“The extension of our product warranty from two to three years signifies FreeWave’s never-ending commitment to its customers, partners and our engineering excellence programs,” explained Ashish Sharma, CMO at FreeWave Technologies. “While other industry players are maintaining (or even decreasing) their warranties, FreeWave is increasing its guarantees to continue providing the best possible service to its customers around the world.”

FreeWave’s FGR2 wireless data radios are fully backwards-compatible with the earlier FGR Series of radios and are capable of accurately transmitting and receiving data up to 60 miles with a clear line of sight. FGR2 provides tremendous flexibility for use in applications around the world ranging from smart grid to oil and gas to golf carts, water systems and more. The FGR2 models offer the lowest power consumption in the industry.

FreeWave’s IO Expansion products help customers achieve optimal performance, faster ROI and customization for communication networks. FreeWave’s IO Expansion modules increase the degree of monitoring, control and optimization, and offer the most flexible and easily expandable wired and wireless IO available in the market today. The extended warranty applies to the entire IO Expansion family, including its Serial Models.
