AGILE ALLIANCE ANNOUNCES 2011-2012 NEW BOARD MEMBERS
Leading Agile organization expands board to address growing interest and demand for Agile knowledge on a global scale
PORTLAND, Oregon, Aug. 18, 2011 – The Agile Alliance, (www.agilealliance.org) a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the advancement of Agile software development principles and practices, today announced the results of the board election conducted at this year’s annual Agile2011 Conference. Three new members were elected to the Agile Alliance and Mitch Lacey was appointed as conference chair for Agile2012 and, as such, will join the board for a one-year term. New elected board members are Rebecca Parsons from ThoughtWorks, Ola Ellnestam from Agical, and Shane Hastie from Software Education. In addition, two existing board members were re-elected, Diana Larsen and Esther Derby.
“The Agile Alliance board of directors plays an important role in supporting those who explore and apply Agile principles and practices in order to make the software industry more productive, humane and sustainable on an international scale,” said Phil Brock, managing director of the Agile Alliance. “In the coming year we look forward to continuing our support of Agile thought leaders, practitioners and authors, and providing new venues and opportunities to engage with one another as we continue to see widespread adoption of Agile practices.”
To help guide the organization’s growth the Agile Alliance membership elected three new board members, including:
• Rebecca Parsons – Parsons is CTO of ThoughtWorks. She has more than 20 years’ application development experience, in industries ranging from telecommunications to emergent internet services. Parsons has published in both language and artificial intelligence publications, served on numerous program committees, and reviews for several journals. She has extensive experience leading in the creation of large-scale distributed object applications and the integration of disparate systems.
- Ola Ellnestam – Ellnestam became engaged in the Agile community in 2000 after reading, Extreme Programming Explained. Fueled by many new thoughts he began his Agile journey which later led him to start a company specializing in XP and Scrum.I n 2005, Ellnestam started Agical with three colleagues, one of Sweden’s most prominent Agile coaching companies. As an expert in software developing he coaches both developers and leaders while they are learning Agile practices and methods. He also is one of the driving forces behind 'Agile Sweden‘, Sweden’s biggest Agile network. In addition, Ellnestam will be the continuing director of the Agile Alliance Conference Sponsorship Program.
- Shane Hastie – Hastie is chief knowledge engineer at Software Education, providing training and consultancy in business systems analysis, requirements engineering, software project management, software testing and design techniques using traditional, Object Oriented as well as Agile methodologies. With more than 25 years of practical experience in software development in real-world environments, Hastie has designed and built a diverse range of systems for a broad range of industries – experience which he weaves expertly into the training he delivers.
The remaining Agile Alliance Board members include, Linda Cook, Samuel Crescêncio, Paul Culling, Jim Newkirk, Pat Reed, Tamara Sulaiman and Phil Brock.
The Agile Alliance continues to increase its membership each year in line with the growing interest and adoption of Agile processes for software development. One key indicator of the increasing adoption of Agile practices is the continuing demand for Agile knowledge by enterprises looking to reap the benefits of the discipline. The Agile Alliance helps meet this demand by publishing content, conducting regional and international educational events and by hosting the industry’s foremost event, the Agile Conference, which brings together development experts from around the globe.
Set for Aug. 13 – 17 in Grapevine, Texas. Agile2012 is the leading international conference on Agile methods in software development, bringing together many disciplines in the fields of information systems and software development to foster the exchange of fresh ideas and best practices.
