WHAT: Session 6C: Changing the Face of SCADA/Supervisory Control Acquisition Data Analysis
Technical Session #1: Demystifying Wireless Ethernet
Wednesday, September 14, 9:30 a.m.
Many SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) managers are looking into converting their telemetry systems from serial communication (RS-232, or RS-485) to Ethernet. Many IT (Information Technology) supervisors are comfortable with Ethernet but have not had much experience with wireless. The trend in data communication is clearly moving to Ethernet, as its advantages are too compelling to ignore: security, faster polling times, mobile communications and more. Internet accessibility and IP addressability all provide benefits previously unavailable with serial communications.
Technical Session #2: The Evolution of Data Collection
Wednesday, September 14, 10:45 a.m.
Today, more pre-planning and system design are necessary to build an expandable, scalable communications network. These systems are much more complex than the older systems and provide far greater versatility and are more robust than the systems built 10 or 15 years ago. This presentation will give an overview of how communication technologies for SCADA have evolved and explain the most effective ways for data collection today.
