COLLABNET SPONSORS FIRST ‘STATE OF GIT IN THE ENTERPRISE’ INDUSTRY SURVEY, MAKES FINDINGS-REPORT FREE
Research shows Git delivers on speed and innovation, concerns about enterprise management and integration lead to hybrid SCM adoption
BRISBANE, Calif., March 21, 2013, CollabNet® (www.collab.net), the global leader for Enterprise Cloud Development, today announced that results from the first major industry survey on Git adoption in the enterprise are available for free download at (http://visit.collab.net/git-survey.html). Findings from the survey, available in the State of Git in the Enterprise white paper, show that Git is clearly being adopted in the enterprise due to its ability to drive agility and innovation for leading-edge mobile, social and cloud-based applications. Key shortcomings are centered on security, governance and administration at scale. The result is enterprises are increasingly adopting a hybrid approach to source code management (SCM) usage to make it a vital part of the development process.
CollabNet partnered with UBM Tech to complete the research project of more than 245 software developers and managers. All respondents work for organizations with more than 100 employees, with 30 percent working at companies with more than 10,000 employees. “Git was created for development speed and according to our survey results, this is exactly why organizations from a wide range of sectors have turned to it,” said Eric Bruno, author of the report. “Its speed and powerful branching and merging have led to its adoption within companies of all sizes, both in terms of employee size and annual revenue. Git’s adoption in the enterprise is clearly seen as a shining point.”
Highlights of the survey include:
• More than 40 percent of enterprise organizations cited Git adoption.
• On-premise (69 percent) and private cloud (44 percent) deployments of Git repositories are generally preferred over public cloud (27 percent) hosting options today.
• 25 percent of respondents indicated Git as one of their standard SCM tools.
• Git and the Agile Methodology go together – with 86 percent of Git users indicating they are using Agile at least partially.
• Git users (managers and above) cited security (51 percent), tool integration (49 percent) and coexistence with other SCM tools (37 percent) as real concerns.
• Most enterprises use two or more SCM tools, with Subversion, Microsoft TFS/VSS, and CVS the most-used SCM tools alongside Git (in that order).
• Suggested feature improvements to make Git better suited for the enterprise included administration, security management and performance on Windows.
“The results of this first survey show that Git in the enterprise is clearly making headway. Based on our experience and feedback from industry input such as this survey, we have been adding Git features into TeamForge that meet the biggest challenges of Git adoption – security, governance, administration and hybrid SCM at scale,” said Bill Portelli, co-founder and CEO of CollabNet. “We look forward to working with our customers and partners to collectively add new value to the GIT SCM value-chain for cloud, on-premise and hybrid cloud deployments.”

CollabNet brings mobile app to enterprise IT customers through a strong partnership with emotive to better connect distributed development teams and support Agile and DevOps
BRISBANE, Calif., Oct. 23., 2012, CollabNet® (www.collab.net), a global leader for Enterprise Cloud Development and Agile ALM, today announced the availability of emotive Connect for TeamForge (TeamForge2Go), a free mobile application that connects on-the-move developers to the TeamForge® platform through mobile devices and tablets. CollabNet partnered with Oakland, Calif.-based emotive, the industry leader for mobile development platforms for the enterprise, to deliver the downloadable app: (http://www.emotive.com/apps/collabnet).
“Today’s developers are under increasing pressure to deliver software faster, and to be connected at all times to teams and projects in order to meet the quickening pace of enterprise IT,” said Bill Portelli, co-founder and CEO of CollabNet. “The emotive mobile app brings the core essence of TeamForge to a developer community that makes up an increasingly mobilized workforce. Developers want and need access to the tools they use every day to view and respond to data faster and more easily, and the mobile device is increasingly the platform of choice.”
Because most mobile development tools are limited in scope and breadth, CollabNet partnered with emotive to create a rich, end-to-end developer experience for the TeamForge ALM and cloud development platform. The new application supports CollabNet’s strategy to bring the convenience and collaborative benefits of cloud development and mobile IT to the enterprise. Coupled with the CloudForge™ cloud development platform and the mobile application, TeamForge’s access and deployment capabilities are extended through on-premise, public and private cloud, and mobile platforms.
emotive specializes in building and deploying efficient, secure, scalable collaborative mobile applications for mobile devices and tablets. The emotive Connect for TeamForge app is not just a replication of TeamForge functionality, but offers a true mobile app experience with practical levels of use for easy viewing and fast response. It includes voice-to-text input for conveniently adding comments to a work item, and lets developers monitor and edit critical project artifacts, including epics, stories, defects and tasks. Users also have the ability to see changes to artifacts in real-time, and to visualize data graphically or textually, update tracker information and post comments all from their mobile device.
“Increasingly, distributed development organizations require new forms of collaboration among teams, projects and people, and mobile devices are driving completely new methods for interaction,” said John Hubinger, CEO for emotive. “The CollabNet mobile app is designed for the developer community and uses native device features to augment traditional processes, simplify data entry and enrich the user’s experience. Application development teams are used to working in a distributed world – and now they are embracing the mobile world as well.”

GORILLA LOGIC ANNOUNCES NEW CLOUD-BASED QUALITY AS A SERVICE (QAAS) OFFERING FOR AUTOMATED MOBILE APPLICATION TESTING
New Cloud Service and Testing Platform Automates and Streamlines Mobile App Testing for Improved Time-to-market and Quality
BOULDER, Colo., March 6, 2012 – Gorilla Logic, (www.gorillalogic.com), the leader in enterprise application development and automated mobile testing tools and services, today announced the Gorilla Logic Continuous QA Cloud: the industry’s first Quality as a Service (QaaS) offering that tests and tracks the quality of mobile apps across iPhone, iPad and Android platforms. Together with the latest version of the MonkeyTalk automated testing tool (see today’s announcement entitled “Gorilla Logic Releases MonkeyTalk”), Gorilla Logic now offers enterprises the tools and services needed to leverage a complete “Continuous QA” cycle when developing and deploying high quality mobile applications.
“Functional testing always has been a challenge for Agile development teams, and the new pressures in the mobile app space – shorter schedules, multiple device versions and more complex interactions – are driving teams nuts. Our customers are really seeking innovative solutions that can reduce their cost and time-to-market while improving overall application quality,” explained Ed Schwarz, vice president of engineering and co-founder of Gorilla Logic. “Quality as a Service really cuts the Gordian Knot with an all-new approach that builds upon our years of experience building open source test tools and extending mobile app testing and quality to the cloud.”
With Continuous QA Cloud, enterprises can focus on delivering quality apps to their customers by leveraging a “Quality as a Service” delivery model that eliminates time, cost and expertise barriers associated with QA of mobile applications. Gorilla Logic’s onshore/offshore service delivery model leverages both its U.S. and recently opened Bangalore, India office to provide a price point that represents real value for any serious project team. Processes, tools and expertise combine to provide the kind of reliability and quality teams frequently struggle to achieve – without imposing speed bumps in their Agile process.
The new Gorilla Logic Continuous QA Cloud service provides:
- A revolutionary platform which allows customers to test their apps automatically, on demand, across dozens or hundreds of mobile devices and simulators.
- The power of Gorilla Logic’s industry-leading open-source testing tool – MonkeyTalk (formerly FoneMonkey). MonkeyTalk’s unique capabilities, from easy-to-work with record-playback to sophisticated data-driven test suites, are solving real-world functional testing challenges for mobile app teams worldwide. The latest MonkeyTalk expands these capabilities to include simpler and more powerful scripting and playback across both major mobile app platforms – iOS and Android.
- QuickStart Services – a no-hassle service offering allows teams to be up and running with QaaS – with real test results in their hands every day – in three weeks without any learning curve or additional staff.
Organizations creating mobile apps today are challenged when it comes to testing, elaborates Schwarz. The field needs support to manage delivery quality in the face of ever-more-demanding consumer audiences, ever-shorter timeframes, and ever-expanding functionality These challenges only increase in the mobile space (gestures, location, direction, hybrid web apps, etc.). Most approaches still center around manual testing in developer desktop environments, assuming infrequent releases at long intervals.
Schwarz says up to this point, Gorilla Logic’s open source MonkeyTalk (previously FoneMonkey) tools have been the leading innovation to address this issue. But challenges remain: the speed and integration the Agile Projects thrive on have left the QA team underserved. They have had to scramble to do the work of developers, integrators and operators just to make a test environment available, and their tools and integration are still are on the “the wild west/roll your own” model.
By bringing together an automation toolset focused on QA professionals with a zero-configuration, cloud-based, on-demand test execution and management platform, Gorilla Logic’s Continuous QA Cloud solves these problems without impacting delivery speed or requiring extensive re-tooling or skills acquisition. “We have spent the last six months bringing together a complete offering – tools, process, expertise and the Gorilla Logic Continuous QA Cloud platform – to really change the game for Agile project teams delivering rich interactive applications – especially the QA teams,” said Stu Stern, CEO and co-founder of Gorilla Logic. “Continuous QA Cloud combines the power of Agile practices, availability of on-demand cloud computing power and the business-point-of-view approach of functional testing in a way which the industry really hasn’t seen before.”
Pricing and Availability
Gorilla Logic’s Continuous QA Cloud Platform service is available immediately, priced based on customer need. For more information please visit (www.gorillalogic.com/quality-service/what-is-qaas). To read CEO Stu Stern’s blog on this announcement please visit (http://blog.gorillalogic.com/).
