THOUGHTWORKS LAUNCHES BUILD, RELEASE AND DEVOPS SERVICE OFFERING FOR ENTERPRISE AGILE SUCCESS
Global leader in Agile provides actionable service to help IT organizations
take the pain and waste out of building and releasing quality software
ORLANDO (Agile 2010) – Aug. 10, 2010 – ThoughtWorks, Inc. (www.thoughtworks.com), a global IT consultancy focused on enterprise Agile software development, today announced Build, Release and DevOps, a new service offering that helps IT organizations assess, plan and implement new processes that lead to rapid and reliable releases of quality software. This hands-on, on-site service focuses on adopting proven best practices, deploying automation tools and properly aligning organizational structures that collectively bring stability and efficiency across the software lifecycle.
“IT organizations are focusing on becoming more adaptive to customers’ needs and fulfilling those needs faster. This requires shorter release cycles and higher development throughput, achieved by improving processes, automation and the roles of both development and IT operations team members,” explained Rolf Russell, build and release principal for ThoughtWorks. “We believe it is critical to view the pipeline from development through testing to production as a whole, or system, not as independent steps. This new service helps IT organizations remove operational silos and structural impediments that inhibit the entire build and release process.”
Build, Release and DevOps is based on the extensive experience ThoughtWorks consulting and delivery teams have implementing best practices and technology platforms within large, complex and high-profile IT organizations. The initial offering is a two- to four-week engagement that focuses on assessing current methods and processes, and developing a vision roadmap for implementing change. This can then be followed with ThoughtWorks consulting and technical engineering experts embedded on-site to help implement the plan and facilitate a new, holistic and sustainable build and release program.
IT organizations that engage the Build, Release and DevOps service can achieve the following breakthroughs:
ThoughtWorks (professional services) and ThoughtWorks Studios (Agile ALM solutions) continue to bring real-world experience together to advance best practices and automation around build and release management. An example is Continuous Delivery, a new Agile practice pioneered by ThoughtWorks that combines automation, engineering rigor and strong collaboration to break down the prevalent organizational silos that segregate development, QA and IT operations. To facilitate new levels of automation around Continuous Delivery, ThoughtWorks Studios recently launched GoTM, a new Agile release management platform that allows organizations to incrementally automate the entire build, test and deployment process and release software faster and more reliably.

The two-day, on-site service is offered through the ThoughtWorks Studios Agile Workshop series, a set of training programs that help development organizations adopt proven best practices for all aspects of Agile ALM.
“As Agile practices move deeper into the enterprise many organizations want to take stock of the investments and progress they have made, and develop a clear roadmap that takes into consideration their own, unique requirements,” said Adam Monago, vice president of client services for ThoughtWorks Studios. “Business Agility Review provides a process to quickly gain true visibility into the state of the organization’s Agile transition program and develop guidance around education and awareness, human resources, as well as tools and technologies that will work best to achieve a highly productive Agile program.”
Based on ThoughtWorks’ extensive experience developing and managing enterprise-wide Agile engagements, Business Agility Review consists of in-depth interviews with key technical and business stakeholders to obtain a holistic view of the entire application development process. There are six areas of focus around management practices, including; assurance, communication, governance, metrics, quality responsiveness and shared responsibility. On the technical side, the Review focuses on build and deploy, configuration management, requirements, simplicity and testing. The result is a detailed report that provides both the analysis of an organization’s Agile readiness and specific recommendations for future success. The recommendations may include tools, training or services, such as delivery, coaching or consulting, from across ThoughtWorks broad portfolio of offerings.
ThoughtWorks Studios Agile Workshops are a compliment to Adaptive ALMTM, the company’s integrated Agile ALM solution designed to support the hybrid nature of Agile processes and the requisite management and engineering practices. It manages the entire software lifecycle – from requirements definition and portfolio management to test automation, quality assurance and release management. The Agile Workshops provide customers with the training needed to improve program visibility and performance. ThoughtWorks (professional services) and ThoughtWorks Studios (Agile ALM solutions) continue to bring real-world experience together to advance best practices around software development. TASKTOP INTRODUCES AGILE PLANNER FOR ECLIPSE AT AGILE 2010
New product enables Agile planning from the IDE and integrates multi-vendor Agile ALM solutions
ORLANDO (Agile 2010), Aug. 9, 2010 – Tasktop Technologies (www.tasktop.com), creators of Eclipse Mylyn and the leader in Agile Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) integration and productivity, today announced the Tasktop Agile Planner, a new product that leverages Mylyn connectors to provide Agile teams the ability to manage existing defect and project management systems with planning support that spans across multiple vendors’ solutions. The planner provides a rich and Eclipse-based user interface for accessing Tasktop Certified Agile project management integrations, including ThoughtWorks Studios’ Mingle, IBM Rational Team Concert, Rally, CollabNet’s ScrumWorks, Atlassian’s JIRA and VersionOne.
The Tasktop Agile Planner provides a unique Eclipse-based native user interface for Windows, Mac and Linux that enhances the web-based interfaces of those solutions and additionally provides offline access to plans. Only the Tasktop Agile Planner offers cross-repository planning facilities that enable user stories to be associated with defects stored in external systems, such as HP Quality Center and Bugzilla. The Eclipse Integrated Development Environment (IDE) integration supports automatic linking between plan items and source code artifacts, and enables developers and team leads to create and monitor Agile development plans directly from Eclipse, making it effortless to maintain project status awareness and keep plans up-to-date.
“The problem of plans becoming disconnected from development activity is rampant in enterprise adoptions of Agile,” said Mik Kersten, CEO of Tasktop Technologies and creator of the open source Eclipse Mylyn project. “The Tasktop Agile Planner addresses this by ensuring that all ALM systems involved with planning are linked and accessible directly from the Eclipse IDE, where developers and team leads spend the majority of their workday. When combined with the Tasktop developer tools this additional level of integration enhances the best-of-breed Agile project management solutions that we integrate with by ensuring that plans are a real-time representation of development activity.”
Tasktop Agile Planner provides project managers, developers, and quality assurance team members with a lightweight yet complete planning platform for managing the entire Agile planning process. Core features of Tasktop Agile Planner include:
