AGILE 2011 CONFERENCE TO REUNITE SIGNATORIES OF AGILE MANIFESTO IN CELEBRATION OF 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Majority of signees planning to attend annual conference to meet with attendees and share ideas for the next 10 years of Agile software development

PORTLAND, OR., Feb. 11, 2011 – The Agile Alliance, (www.agilealliance.org) a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the advancement of Agile software development principles and practices, has invited all of the original signatories of The Agile Manifesto (http://agilemanifesto.org/) to attend and participate in the Agile 2011 Conference, the industry’s leading Agile development event, scheduled for Aug. 8 – 12 in Salt Lake City (http://agile2011.agilealliance.org/). Conference organizers have received initial commitments from nearly all of the 17 visionaries that crafted the enduring principle that has changed the way software is developed and delivered today.

“Ten years ago a group of 17 independent-minded practitioners of several programming methodologies gathered near Salt Lake City and developed four guiding principles for the Agile software development movement,” said Todd Little, Agile 2011 conference chair. “We will celebrate this occasion with the entire Agile community at Agile 2011 by inviting and bringing together as many of the original signatories as possible. Those that attend will provide insights and interact with attendees during our ongoing “Open Jam” stage that allows for the exchange of experiences and ideas throughout the week-long conference.”

On Feb. 11-13, 2001, at The Lodge at Snowbird ski resort in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah, 17 representatives from Extreme Programming, SCRUM, DSDM, Adaptive Software Development, Crystal, Feature-Driven Development, Pragmatic Programming and others interested in an alternative to documentation driven, heavyweight software development processes convened. What emerged was the Agile Software Development Manifesto, or what is commonly referred to as The Agile Manifesto. Naming itself “The Agile Alliance,” this group of independent thinkers developed and agreed on the following wording and principles (for the complete history as told by Jim Highsmith, please visit: (http://www.agilemanifesto.org/history.html).

The Manifesto for Agile Software Development
We are uncovering better ways of developing software by doing it and helping others do it.
Through this work we have come to value:

  • Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
  • Working software over comprehensive documentation
  • Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
  • Responding to change over following a plan

That is, while there is value in the items on the right, we value the items on the left more.
