WHAT: Reduce Operational Costs and Extend the Life of Pipeline Infrastructure by Automating Remote Cathodic Protection Systems
Energy and pipeline companies wrestle to control operating costs largely affected by new government regulations, aging buried metal assets, rising steel prices, expanding pipeline operations, new interference points, HCA encroachment, restrictive land use policies, heightened network security and an aging, soon-to-retire work force. With operating costs on the rise, and seemingly out of control, many CP and operations professionals look to past best practices in cost containment through automation. Many companies achieve solid business results through deployment of telemetry and SCADA automation of remote assets and now hope to expand this success to further optimize operations by automating remote cathodic protection systems. This presentation will provide examples of how new remote cathodic protection systems are helping energy and pipeline companies address the growing issue of the aging pipeline infrastructure and reduce their costs while optimizing their operations.

WHAT: ”Irrigation and Water Delivery Improvements Using Wireless Communication Technology”
The nation’s farms and irrigation districts are losing access to water because the world’s population is booming and cities are expanding. At the same time, the growing need for food requires that we increase our crop yields to meet the ever-increasing demands of the world’s population. Today, there are numerous technologies at our fingertips that can assist in meeting future performance expectations. One simple word that describes these technologies is “automation.” The same automation that has created information superhighways and reduced cost and higher productivity in producing fuels also can be used within the irrigation industry. Examples are wireless communication, automated controls and automated sensors. This presentation will explain how modifications using wireless technologies can save enormous amounts of water, improve efficiencies within systems and decrease the total amount of water being used in irrigation systems.
