Interest and increasing contracts bode well for both companies for second half of the year and beyond
WASHINGTON, AUVSI, Booth #738, Aug. 17, 2011 — FreeWave Technologies, (http://www.freewave.com), manufacturer of the most reliable, high-performance spread spectrum and licensed radios for critical data transmission, and MicroBee Systems, Inc. (http://www.microbee-systems.com) of Huntsville, Alabama, today said early interest and orders placed through MicroBee’s GSA contract for FreeWave wireless data radios are demonstrating positive signs of success and growing momentum.
MicroBee was awarded a U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Information Technology (IT) Schedule 70 Contract in late January of this year allowing it to sell FreeWave products and solutions directly to federal customers through long-term contracts that include discounted, pre-negotiated pricing, terms and conditions. State and municipal governments also may participate in this program under a “cooperative purchasing” clause in the contract.
The Schedule 70 contract is part of the Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) program that the GSA created to provide a centralized delivery system of products and services to the federal government, leveraging its enormous buying power to get the best value for taxpayers. Founded in 1949, GSA manages more than one-fourth of the government’s total procurement dollars and influences the management of $500 billion in federal assets.
“We have seen an unexpected level of interest and orders from government customers for FreeWave radios through the GSA program,” said Dave Thomas, president of MicroBee Systems. “The typical sales cycle for government orders can extend for months and even years. However, FreeWave’s reputation for well-built, proven and reliable wireless data radio products is helping drive early demand for GSA contract customers and also assists MicroBee in its sales efforts.”
“Through MicroBee, FreeWave essentially is establishing a new channel for its products, which opens up avenues for further expansion and sales,” said Ashish Sharma, chief marketing officer at FreeWave Technologies. “We are very optimistic about our reseller partnership and the ongoing enthusiastic response from the market.”
FreeWave sells a variety of wireless data radios for government and defense use. As with all FreeWave radios, these families of products are proven to withstand the harsh elements of temperature, terrain and weather that usually accompanies government, defense and government applications. “These are the reasons why we have been a FreeWave reseller for nine years,” said Thomas. “We know when we recommend and sell FreeWave radios, our customers are getting the very best and most reliable solution available.”

Company increases flight time by 20 percent year over year based on demand by major government and defense OEMs
WASHINGTON, AUVSI, Booth #738, Aug. 16, 2011 — FreeWave Technologies, (http://www.freewave.com), manufacturer of the most reliable, high-performance spread spectrum and licensed radios for critical data transmission, today announced its radios for government and defense applications have logged more than one million hours of flight time since the company began shipping its first military radio in 1997. The one million milestone represents a 20 percent increase in logged flight time since just one year ago demonstrating the continuing market momentum FreeWave’s wireless data radios are experiencing among government and defense OEMs. FreeWave will showcase its entire line of government and defense wireless data radios and provide hands-on demos of its latest technology at AUVSI 2011 (booth #738).
“We now have logged more than one million flight hours with some of the top military, government agencies and OEM’s around the world,” said Ashish Sharma, chief marketing officer at FreeWave Technologies. “FreeWave radios are proven to be reliable in adverse weather, difficult terrain, and have extreme noise immunity. Those features coupled with long-range high-speed capability, small footprint, light weight and extended battery life have become critical factors in our success.”
FreeWave radios are used for a variety of military applications. Examples include, command and control of unmanned vehicles and robotics; biological and chemical sensing; asset tracking; Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and Micro UAV; guided parachutes; soldier training and war game applications; and more. At the beginning of the year, FreeWave also partnered with MicroBee Systems, Inc. (http://www.microbee-systems.com) of Huntsville, Alabama to sell FreeWave products and solutions directly to federal customers through the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Information Technology (IT) Schedule 70 Contract. Over the past eight months, FreeWave and MicroBee have seen interest from many government contractors and customers helping increase interest for its product in this marketplace (see FreeWave’s announcement regarding MicroBee tomorrow, Aug. 17, 2011).
“The government and defense marketplaces are two of the most important industries for FreeWave,” explained Sharma. “Our customers have come to expect the very best in technology and service from FreeWave. Their input has helped shape our product development efforts by delivering products that meet their mission critical requirements every single day on the battlefield and beyond. We look forward to continuing to satisfy their future needs with innovative solutions based on their input.”
FreeWave will showcase its full line of military radio solutions at AUVSI 2011 in its booth (#738) and will highlight its MM2 family of radios. These tiny form factor radios offer all of the same features of FreeWave’s standard-sized radios but in a much smaller package. The MM2 is designed specifically for unmanned systems and weighs a mere 14 grams with a size of 1.4-inches high by 2.0 inches wide. Its tiny features, light weight, long-range ability, versatility and security make this radio ideal for UAVs – giving them longer flight times.
