FREEWAVE INTRODUCES ENHANCED MODELS FOR POPULAR IO EXPANSION FAMILY OF WIRELESS DATA RADIOS

New IO Expansion modules offer increased ROI with additional options for customization of communication network

BOULDER, Colo., Sept. 6, 2011 — FreeWave Technologies, (http://www.freewave.com), manufacturer of the most reliable, high-performance spread spectrum and licensed radios for critical data transmission, today announced a new suite of IO Expansion products to help customers achieve optimal performance, faster ROI and customization for communication networks. FreeWave’s IO Expansion modules increase the degree of monitoring, control and optimization, and offer the most flexible and easily expandable wired and wireless IO available in the market today. Unmatched in the marketplace, FreeWave is the only wireless data radio provider with expandable IO devices that offer universally configurable IO channels for analog input, analog output, digital input, digital output and sensor power.

“Our IO Expansion products allow operators to build on existing network communications while expanding real-time performance management and condition monitoring,” said Andrejs Rozitis, product manager at FreeWave. “With our stackable IO Expansion Module, customers not only benefit from increased performance, but also achieve cost savings with the ability to easily add IO points to a radio or serial base. Today, we’ve taken our IO Expansion one step further by allowing users to customize their networks and select the ideal number of isolated digital inputs and isolated relay digital outputs for their individual application.”

The new IO Expansion modules provide faster access times for up to 192 IO points. They also offer internal user selectable pull up and pull down resistors for all non-isolated inputs to ease product installation and reduce the number of external components. Additionally, the IO Expansion products carry the same measurement accuracy of analog inputs, and can snap directly onto FreeWave radios or connect to any other serial communication device, thereby leveraging customers’ existing hardware investments.

The flexibility of IO Expansion allows it to be used for a variety of applications. In oil and gas, it is used for multiple well pad applications to obtain additional data points from the wellhead, storage tanks, separator, pipeline injection, drive and flare. In electric power, a higher concentration of IO points in a single connection simplifies transformer monitoring and eases environmental and condition monitoring of coal ash ponds. The water/wastewater market also benefits from IO Expansion with the ability to monitor and control more variables in water towers, storage ponds, pumps, drives, lift stations and chemical pumps.

New models and additional enhancements to FreeWave’s IO Expansion family include:

  • IOE-4440 Serial Base and IOEX-4440 Expansion Module – Four universal channels, four input-only channels, four isolated digital input channels and no isolated digital output channels
  • IOE-4422 Serial Base and IOEX-4422 Expansion Module - Four universal channels, four input-only channels, two isolated digital input channels and two isolated digital output channels
  • IOE-4404 Serial Base and IOEX-4404 Expansion Module - Four universal channels, four input-only channels, no isolated digital input channels and four isolated digital output channels

“The addition of new IO Expansion models demonstrates our efforts to offer the leading IO products in the market place,” said Ashish Sharma, chief marketing officer at FreeWave. “Our customers are the number one priority at FreeWave, and we will continue to develop products that not only fit their needs, but enable the most reliable and efficient communication networks.”

The new IO Expansion products are now available for shipping. Additional information is available online at www.freewave.com or by contacting FreeWave at 866-923-6168.

FREEWAVE TECHNOLOGIES TO DEBUT IO EXPANSION WIRELESS DATA RADIO FAMILY FOR WATER APPLICATIONS AT AWWA ACE 2010

AWWA ACE10, Chicago, BOOTH #362, June 21, 2010 — FreeWave Technologies, (http://www.freewave.com), manufacturer of the most reliable, high-performance spread spectrum and licensed radios for critical data transmission, will be showcasing three new additions to its IO Expansion family that offer several new and improved features for water/wastewater applications in its booth (#362) at AWWA ACE10. The new FreeWave IO Expansion family is ideal for applications in the water purification and wastewater treatment industry, such as measuring and controlling intake pumps, temperature, water levels, flow rates, pressures and chemical levels. The IO Expansion line also is suited for applications in oil and gas automation, agriculture irrigation, and monitoring/control markets.
"The water/wastewater industry will benefit greatly from our new IO expansion line because it provides increased flexibility, accuracy and performance without the need to purchase an entirely new system," explained Ken Granader, vice president of sales. "Now, customers can leverage their existing investments in wireless IO – and gain up to 192 additional IO points at a fraction of the cost of buying brand new radio systems."
The IO Expansion Module is known for offering a scalable IO solution with up to 12 IO points per module. Also, up to 15 modules can be stacked on the radio or base module — allowing up to 192 additional IO points per 15 module stack. This adds significant flexibility to an existing FreeWave Modbus IO network. Now, with the introduction of the Serial Base, expandable IO points can be added to any existing serial network regardless of manufacturer. Along with the peace of mind that goes with 100 percent temperature tested radios, users can rest assured of measurement accuracy. The 0.10 percent accuracy of analog input measurements across the entire operating temperature means that users can be confident in the reported measurements and reduce their process errors. The new form factor is fully enclosed with an integrated DIN rail clip for easy installation and maintenance. In the future, Granader says new functionality and firmware will be added to the platform and be available through firmware upgrades with FreeWave's Tool Suite configuration software.

New models and additional enhancements to FreeWave's IO Expansion family include:
•    Serial Base: IOE-X-4422PC -local IO can be added to any serial equipment or serial wireless network, such as existing non-FreeWave wireless serial networks and existing PLCs or RTUs. Both solutions allow customers to increase the number of IO points without having to upgrade to new hardware.
•    Radio Base: FGR2-IO-IOE – provides a wireless base for IO Expansion to any new or existing FGR serial network with up to 60 miles with line-of-sight (LOS).
•    Expansion Module: IOE-X-4422-P – offers universally configurable IO expansion to either the Radio Base (FGR2-IO-IOE) or Serial Base (IOEX-4422PC).
