What: Implementing ISO (9001 in Scrum Environment)

ISO-9001 is widely seen as a product differentiator for businesses operating within highly competitive markets. Many businesses have, over the years, put a considerable amount of time and money into acquiring ISO-9001 certification. Unfortunately, agile development is often seen as an obstacle to maintaining the ISO certification. Contrary to this belief, however, the Scrum method of agile development offers up a set of unique operating characteristics that do not interfere with the implementation standards routinely seen within the software engineering industry. In this session, Schiel will describe some of the challenges of these ISO-9001-related implementations, along with practical approaches to dealing with them. Topics discussed during the session include: how to define a quality policy, how to define required processes and how to leverage Scrum sprint reviews to support organizational audit-ability.

Exploring Team Ingenuity Outside the Software Industry

Aviators, surgical teams, elite military squads, and jazz musicians have discovered teamwork is the main factor in their effectiveness. The visibility of success or failure in these fields lends itself to analysis of teamwork in general. Scrum has helped the software industry realize teamwork is crucial to business success. James will explore what ScrumMasters learn from the study of teamwork in other fields and the techniques other disciplines have tried for improving teamwork. In this highly interactive session, James will lead attendees through discussions on how Scrum teams can take their performance and ingenuity to the next level.
