Using out-of-the-box JNBridgePro, company provides specific instructions and source code demonstrating how to write .NET-based Hadoop mapreducers in process and without streaming
BOULDER, Colo., May 21, 2012 — JNBridge, (www.jnbridge.com), a leading provider of interoperability tools that connect the Java and .NET Frameworks both on the ground and in the cloud, today announced a new JNBridge Lab demonstrating how to build and use .NET-based mapreducers with Apache Hadoop. Using the out-of-the-box functionality of JNBridgePro, JNBridge’s flagship product, this new lab provides a faster and better way to create heterogeneous Hadoop applications than other current alternatives.
JNBridge Labs is a series of newly developed interoperability kits designed to help developers address new ways of connecting disparate technologies both on the ground and in the cloud. The labs are distributed freely, with pointers to documentation and links to source code. They are announced on the company’s blog (http://www.jnbridge.com/jn/blog/) and are available on JNBridge’s website (http://www.jnbridge.com/labs).
The Hadoop lab demonstrates how developers can write .NET-based Hadoop mapreducers against the Java-based Hadoop API — without having to use Hadoop streaming or incurring the overhead costs of parsing the stream. The resulting .NET code can run inside the Hadoop process, greatly reducing both development time and performance costs.
“We expect developers who want to implement or use Hadoop mapreducers written in C# or other .NET languages will find this much easier than other alternatives,” explained Wayne Citrin, CTO of JNBridge. “The beauty of this lab is that the hardest part was getting educated on Hadoop. JNBridgePro is versatile enough that once we understood the problem, a straightforward and elegant solution pretty much just fell into place.”
JNBridgePro connects Java and .NET Framework-based components and applications together with simple-to-use Visual Studio and Eclipse plug-ins that remove the complexities of cross-platform interoperability. JNBridge’s interoperability software and adapters have received numerous accolades over the company’s past 10 years, including being cited as a Gartner Cool Vendor and the Reader’s Choice Award from Visual Studio Magazine.
JNBridge expects to offer several more labs throughout the course of the year. The Hadoop Lab is available now and can be downloaded at (www.jnbridge.com/labs).

Company provides specific use case scenarios and source code to show developers how they can connect technologies that have been otherwise difficult, if not impossible, to join
BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 29, 2012 — JNBridge, (www.jnbridge.com), a leading provider of interoperability tools that connect the Java and .NET Frameworks both on the ground and in the cloud, today announced the introduction of JNBridge Labs, a series of newly developed interoperability kits designed to help developers address new ways of connecting disparate technologies both on the ground and in the cloud. The labs will be distributed freely, announced on the company’s blog (http://www.jnbridge.com/jn/blog/), with pointers to documentation and links to source code.
The first lab offered is a new adapter for BizTalk Server that uses SSH (Secure Shell) to enable BizTalk Servers to manipulate remote files securely. For example, Microsoft provides a file adapter Software Development Kit (SDK) for the BizTalk Server, but it does not support secure communications. This new SSH Adapter enables secure manipulation, which is particularly important when files are sitting in the cloud and being accessed over the public Internet. SSH is a network protocol for secure network services between networked computers that it connects via a secure channel over an insecure network. It can be used for many applications across many platforms, including UNIX/Linux, Microsoft Windows and Apple’s Mac OS X.
“We expect developers will find these labs useful in addressing problems they encounter in their regular work,” explained Wayne Citrin, CTO of JNBridge. “It also provides a way for developers to interact and share best practices and experiences with one another by testing out new ways of overcoming the significant challenges they face related to interoperability.”
With JNBridge’s SSH Adapter for BizTalk Server, users can securely control files on Linux machines from BizTalk Server, for example, Amazon EC2 cloud files. “While this lab uses SSH in the context of BizTalk Server, it’s important to note that the ability to access and manipulate files securely over a network using SSH is equally compelling from general .NET applications, not just from BizTalk Server, so a similar strategy will allow users to use best-of-breed Java SSH libraries from any .NET application,” Citrin added.
JNBridge’s interoperability adapters and software have received numerous accolades over the company’s past 10 years, including being cited as a Gartner Cool Vendor, Reader’s Choice Award from Visual Studio Magazine, and Best of Tech-Ed 2009.
JNBridge expects to offer several more labs throughout the course of the year. The SSH Lab is available now and can be downloaded at (www.jnbridge.com/labs).

Version 3.0 of the JMS Adapter for BizTalk Server adds support for JMS Map Messages
BOULDER, Colo., Nov. 7, 2011 — JNBridge, (www.jnbridge.com), the award-winning provider of interoperability tools that connects the Java and .NET Frameworks, today announced the release of Version 3.0 of its JMS Adapters, which enables developers to access JMS (Java Messaging Service) directly from BizTalk Server or from their .NET-based applications. The JNBridge JMS Adapter for BizTalk Server V3.0 adds support for JMS Map Messages, automatically converting received map messages to XML documents based on user provided schemas. The JNBridge JMS Adapter for .NET adds full support for Visual Studio 2010 and Microsoft Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) Line-of-Business (LOB) SDK. Both adapters also have expanded licensing options, including support for virtual machines and annual licensing.
“The new map messages interface especially is timely for our organization as it is vital in our environment to ensure we can seamlessly integrate our enterprise service bus and our existing application assets,” said Richard Townsend, director of information systems at Farm Bureau Financial Services. “JNBridge’s adapters filled the void our enterprise had when we were looking to access JMS directly from BizTalk Server,” said Townsend.
The JNBridge JMS Adapters enable enterprises to integrate any existing JMS (Java Message Service) infrastructure with BizTalk Server or with Microsoft .NET Framework-based desktop applications, server solutions and cloud deployments.
With the adapters, customers are able to quickly configure transports and integrate applications, simplifying the complexity and therefore allowing development teams to reduce risk and focus on automating other businesses processes.
“This latest release of the adapters is another step forward in our vision of interoperability, allowing users to deploy interoperable solutions anywhere,” said Wayne Citrin, CTO of JNBridge. “The latest version of each adapter allows enterprises to purchase and deploy according to their business needs: from conventional perpetual machine-based licensing to annual licenses on virtual machines, or even to instances in the cloud.”

SwissRe able to shorten development times, improve localization and gain consistent business results
BOULDER, Colo., Sept. 26, 2011- JNBridge, (www.jnbridge.com), the award-winning provider of interoperability tools that connect the Java and .NET Frameworks, and Swiss Re, (www.swissre.com) one of the world’s largest and most diversified reinsurers, together are now enabling actuaries all over the world to incorporate a common numerical analysis Java API in their local market Excel-based applications in order to eliminate the need for local code reinvention and duplication.
“Giving actuaries working in local markets access to key functions from their VBA/.NET environments has changed the way they develop applications,” said Johannes M. Hug, Ph.D. director of information technology at Swiss Re. “Without the need to reinvent critical code, they now can focus on integrating local market conditions for even more accurate analysis.”
Insurance underwriting relies on complex analysis to make critical business decisions – including reviewing financials, valuing potential losses and mitigating risk. At Swiss Re, these analyses are performed by actuaries who chart and analyze probabilistic data using a proprietary library containing hundreds of classes of numerical and business functions that capture reinsurance knowledge and perform key computations.
Prior to seeking out JNBridgePro, Swiss Re had spent considerable resources in developing the Swiss Re Actuarial Library (SAL), its proprietary Java-based API that contains rich numerical analysis functionality. SAL is readily available to actuaries working on corporate enterprise applications at the home office but it was not accessible to actuaries in local markets thus resulting in actuaries continuing to reinvent the wheel by writing their own logic, investing time and effort to create and test more limited function sets.
“A great deal of business knowledge is embedded in the API – cost models, internal overhead and profit margin calculations and critical numerical and business functionality – content local users might not think to create,” said Thomas Kruppa, director of products at Swiss Re. “Yet the API cannot address every market or rapidly changing local conditions. Local markets have unique characteristics that our Java-based enterprise library does not address. That is why many of Swiss Re’s actuaries develop standalone Microsoft Excel applications that are tailored to local markets.”
JNBridgePro is an interoperability bridge between Java and .NET that simplifies the issue of cross-platform integration. Using JNBridgePro, SwissRe was able to:

Citrin to present and demo how JNBridgePro 6.0 will enable developers to integrate Java with .NET code in the Cloud
Who: Wayne Citrin
CTO
JNBridge
Citrin is Chief Technology Officer at JNBridge. He is the architect of JNBridgePro and has been devoted to Java and .NET interoperability issues since .NET’s beta days, more than nine years ago. Prior to co-founding JNBridge, Citrin was a leading researcher in programming languages and compilers and was on the Computer Engineering faculty at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He was a researcher at IBM’s research lab in Zürich, Switzerland and has a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, in Computer Science. He has given presentations at JavaOne, Microsoft’s TechEd and TechReady, and numerous academic and technical conferences.
What: Java/.NET Interoperability in the Cloud
Cloud computing is without question here to stay. However, how do IT organizations moving applications to the cloud integrate Java and Microsoft .NET applications? At the GLUE Conference, Citrin will outline the level of support and various approaches developers can take to call Java from .NET in the cloud. Citrin will explain why he believes that what is typically discussed under the rubric of cloud interoperability is so insufficient it will destroy the promise of the cloud. For cloud computing to be successful ‘Cloud Interoperability’ must encompass full Cloud-to-Cloud access, whereby any cloud service can be consumed from any client or on-premise platform, and full interoperability within a cloud service. Citrin will conclude with an explanation of the approaches developers can take to make interoperability in the cloud successful. He will share use cases and tools that provide the ability to write cloud services using any platform, easily, simply and quickly, and regardless of the cloud vendor.
