Largest conference on Agile software development to feature more than 200 sessions presented by industry luminaries and peer experts

ORLANDO, (Agile 2010), Aug. 9, 2010 - The Agile Alliance, (www.agilealliance.org) a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the advancement of Agile software development principles and practices, today kicked off its ninth annual conference Aug, 9-13 in Orlando. "From beginners to development experts, Agile 2010 offers attendees useful tips, knowledge and best practices that they can put into immediate practice within their software development organizations."

More than 200 technical sessions and keynote presentations highlight this year's conference which takes place at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort.

"We heard attendees' feedback from last year regarding how we could continue to improve the annual Agile conference and make it more useful to them," Newkirk explained. "We believe this year's conference delivers on that feedback, making it the best, most useful conference ever for advancing the practice of Agile software development principles and practices."

ThoughtWorks Establishes Agile Engineering Initiative for Grameen Foundation's Mifos®

Washington, D.C. and Chicago, July 27, 2010 - ThoughtWorks, Inc., (www.thoughtworks.com) the global leader in Agile methods of software development, today announced a global initiative to provide software engineering services for Grameen Foundation's Mifos platform.

ThoughtWorks has established a dedicated team to advance the next-generation Mifos technology architecture using the latest open source technologies. The project will extend Mifos' capabilities to meet the changing demands of the microfinance industry. These efforts represent ThoughtWorks' commitment to use its technical expertise towards alleviation of world poverty through microfinance.

"We are excited to join hands with Grameen Foundation to expand the outreach of microfinance to the world's poor," said Rohit Bansal, head of ThoughtWorks' Social Impact Program. "We are confident that our passion to create value through technology will be a catalyst for this expansion."

THOUGHTWORKS STUDIOS ANNOUNCES 'GO' TO ENABLE BREAKTHROUGH AGILE APPROACH OF CONTINUOUS DELIVERY

Based on new wave of Agile practices from ThoughtWorks, Go enables organizations to overcome operational constraints to schedule releases according to business needs

SAN FRANCISCO and BANGALORE, July 20, 2010 - ThoughtWorks Studios www.thoughtworks-studios.com, a global leader in Agile ALM solutions, today announced GoTM, a new Agile release management platform that allows organizations to incrementally automate the entire build, test and deployment process and release software faster and more reliably. Go enables Continuous Delivery, making it possible for enterprises to move from a world where software releases are governed by operational constraints to a world where they can release according to their business needs. Pioneered by ThoughtWorks as a key element of large-scale Agile adoption, Continuous Delivery combines automation and engineering rigor with a heavy emphasis on collaboration to break down the prevalent organizational silos that segregate development, QA and IT operations.

"For many enterprises, software increasingly plays a critical role in creating a competitive advantage and building and maintaining value-added customer relationships. As an industry, Agile practices have had a major impact on our ability to create software faster to keep pace with business needs," said Cyndi Mitchell, managing director of ThoughtWorks Studios. "But many organizations still spend several weeks, and often months, putting software live in production - long after it's been declared 'ready' by the business. As Agile and ALM come together, Continuous Delivery and Go enable a next-generation Agile approach that delivers rapid and reliable releases as and when the business needs them."

Go is the upgrade path for ThoughtWorks Studios' continuous integration solution, Cruise. It joins Mingle (Agile project management) and Twist (Agile testing) to form ThoughtWorks Studios Adaptive ALMTM, the only holistic end-to-end solution built from the ground up to serve as a single platform for all aspects of the Agile software development and delivery lifecycle. It integrates requirements analysis, project and program management, test automation, quality assurance, and build and release management to achieve Continuous Delivery. Adaptive ALM is designed to be flexible to adapt to unique customer requirements while providing the structure needed to adopt Agile enterprise-wide and throughout the entire application delivery lifecycle.

As outlined in the upcoming book, Continuous Delivery (Addison-Wesley, Martin Fowler Signature Series, Jez Humble and Dave Farley), delivering software to users can be a painful, risky and time-consuming process. Continuous Delivery outlines the principles and technical practices that enable rapid, incremental delivery of high quality, valuable new functionality through the automation of the build, deployment and testing process. As a build and release principal for ThoughtWorks Studios, and product manager for Go, Humble has guided the technical vision behind Go to ensure it enables Continuous Delivery and fosters an environment where ideas can be turned into released software rapidly, regardless of the size or complexity of the project.

Go helps drive Continuous Delivery by providing organizations with a standard platform to automate, manage and control the entire build, deploy and release processes. It is a single system of record for managing and tracing each application's lifecycle from check-in to release, thus providing visibility into the production readiness of the entire software portfolio. The result is automated releases that are rapid and reliable and can be self-serviced at the push of a button.

Unique features of Go that enable Continuous Delivery include:

Environments: this first-of-its-kind capability lets organizations see what version of each application is in each environment, audit back to the source, and perform one-click deployments of any version of software.

Parallel Test Intelligence: speeds up tests by running them in parallel on a grid. Go's unique test intelligence lets organizations see exactly which tests broke, which check-in broke them, and who was responsible, even when they are run across a grid.

New UI for the DevOps world: enables easy centralized management of large numbers of projects and machines for both developers and IT operations.

Templates: allows for managing large numbers of projects within an Agile ALM environment. Templates allow organizations to manage branches and define re-usable workflow.

"Go uniquely addresses the needs of development and IT operations teams to have a common, integrated platform to manage their entire development, testing and release lifecycle," explained Humble, product manager of Go. "Go fills a crucial gap in many Agile implementations - providing the automation, collaboration and compliance capabilities to break down operational silos and turn software releases into frequent, reliable, non-events."

Go Availability
Go is available now as part of the Adaptive ALM platform from ThoughtWorks Studios. The Go Community edition is available as a free download directly from the ThoughtWorks Studios website, while the full-version, commercial Go Enterprise is available via license. For product, download and pricing information please visit: (www.thoughtworks-studios.com/go-agile-release-management).

THOUGHTWORKS STUDIOS' JEZ HUMBLE TO GIVE KEYNOTE AT THE AGILE TOKYO 2010 CONFERENCE

Humble's keynote to explain how continuous delivery bridges development with testers and IT operations

WHO: Jez Humble
Build and Release Principal
ThoughtWorks Studios
(www.thoughtworks-studios.com/)

Humble has extensive IT experience as a developer, sysadmin, consultant and manager, working with multiple platforms and technologies. Since 2004, he has worked for ThoughtWorks Studios in Beijing, Bangalore, London and San Francisco. He is the co-author of the forthcoming book Continuous Delivery (Addison-Wesley, 2010), and serves as product manager for Cruise, ThoughtWorks' continuous integration platform.

WHAT: Based on ThoughtWorks' years of experience running large-scale, distributed and cross-functional Agile projects, continuous delivery is a new agile methodology that focuses on automating the build, test and deployment process, and improving collaboration between development, testers and IT operations. The end goal is to enable rapid, reliable delivery of high quality, valuable new functionality to users, providing a fast return on IT investments in software.

Getting software released to users in large-scale environments is often a painful, risky, and time-consuming process. By following the principles and practices that form the basis of continuous delivery, developers, testers, and systems administrators can deliver software rapidly while improving quality and maintaining the stability of the live environment.

Humble, an expert in developing best practices around continuous software delivery, will explore such topics as automated testing, patterns for continuous deployment, value stream mapping, and the principles that enable rapid, reliable releases in large-scale Agile environments. In his keynote presentation, Humble will present a pattern called the "deployment pipeline." This enables every team member the luxury of receiving rapid feedback on the production readiness of the application every time a change is introduced.

WHO: Adam Monago
Vice President, Client Services
ThoughtWorks, Inc.

WHAT: Good facilitation skills are essential for everyone in software development. In fact, everyone facilitates whether they know it or not. If individuals work on a team, manage an organization, or simply work with others, the opportunity to facilitate arises often. Adam Monago will lead attendees in exploring the common patterns and anti-patterns-for both the facilitator and the participants-he's seen and experienced during facilitation interactions. Monago will lead this highly interactive session and have some fun along the way taking on roles like Gladiator, Guide, and Conclusion Jumper. He will have attendees explore the facilitation behaviors that work-and ones that don't-and participate in activities that provide an opportunity for attendees to practice new facilitation techniques. Participants will laugh and learn, and take away new skills and tools to help them and their team become more effective facilitators.

Highlights include keynotes Dave Thomas and Mike Cohn, first day of invited industry luminaries and a wide range of sessions to meet the varying needs of Agile practitioners

PORTLAND, Ore., May 14, 2010 - The Agile Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the advancement of Agile software development principles and practices, today announced that the full conference program for Agile 2010 has been set and is available for review at (http://agile2010.agilealliance.org/program.html). Due to flooding in Nashville, Agile 2010 has been relocated to the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin hotel in Orlando, Florida. The conference dates remain the same; scheduled for Aug. 9 - 13 (www.agile2010.com).

"With more than 917 abstracts submitted and 214 accepted sessions slated for Agile 2010, I know attendees will find a full range of sessions, from beginner to highly advanced, that will help them succeed with Agile practices," said James Newkirk, Agile 2010 conference chair. "Our stage and committee leaders have done an excellent job of listening to and responding to the needs of the Agile community and have put together an outstanding program."

The metaphor for this year's conference describes stages of learning through the Japanese martial arts style of Shu Ha Ri, which translates to "Learn, Practice, Explore." These stages describe a path from learning to mastery. The Program is organized around three collaborating communities: Technical, Business, and Leadership & Organization.

The Technical portion of the program focuses on topics and activities that help Agile team members deliver value through the things that they create. Be it programmers, testers, designers, and others who build software, this community will provide participants a range of sessions on how to do this more efficiently.

The Business segment of the program focuses on topics that help those who leverage the capabilities of Agile teams to make their organizations thrive. Product managers, analysts, business partners and other business leaders can rapidly deliver new valuable products and solutions to their stakeholders using Agile.

The Leadership & Organization piece of the program focuses on leadership topics that are essential to continually thrive in the presence of complexity and change. Whether a leader as part of the Agile team, with stakeholders, or leading cultural change across an organization, this community will provide a range of sessions, challenging attendees' views of work while providing tools and practices to more effectively lead to better results.

In its ninth year, Agile 2010 is the leading international conference on Agile methods in software development, bringing together many disciplines in the fields of information systems and software development to foster the exchange of fresh ideas and best practices. It provides independent software vendors, software consultants and in-house corporate development teams with the knowledge and shared experiences that lead to successful Agile programs. Agile 2010 connects attendees with the foremost leaders in the Agile domain, enriching the collective body of knowledge and influencing the line of thought in the field. It encourages debate and fosters innovative ideas based on real-world implementations for executives, managers, software development practitioners and researchers from labs and academia.

Attendees are encouraged to register early to obtain the Super Early Bird and Early Bird rates. For more information or to register online, visit (http://agile2010.agilealliance.org/register.html).
About the Agile Alliance
The Agile Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the concepts of Agile software development, as outlined in the (http://www.agilemanifesto.org/). With nearly 6,000 members located around the globe, the Agile Alliance is driven by the principles of Agile methodologies and the value delivered to developers, organizations and end users. The Agile Alliance organizes the annual Agile Conference, the industry's leading event that attracts practitioners, academia, business and vendor-partner community members from around the globe. The Agile 2010 conference http://agile2010.agilealliance.org/ is set for August 9-13 in Orlando.

New integrations with ThoughtWorks Studios Adaptive ALM and IBM Rational product suites allow enterprise customers to leverage task management framework

VANCOUVER, Mar. 23, 2010 - Tasktop Technologies (http://www.tasktop.com), creators of Eclipse Mylyn and the leading provider of task management for application lifecycle management (ALM), today announced new integrations that extend the reach of its commercial ALM integration and task management product. Tasktop Pro now provides full support for software development teams using ThoughtWorks Studios' Adaptive ALMTM solutions, including Mingle®, Twist® and Cruise®. Tasktop also announced a new integration with IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC), which is scheduled for public beta release in June 2010. Together, these integrations will support enterprises looking to tightly integrate Agile ALM programs through a task management "layer" within the Eclipse IDE.

"Tasktop is transforming developer productivity by automatically linking the Agile process with the developer's coding activity," said Mik Kersten, CEO of Tasktop Technologies and creator of the open source Eclipse Mylyn project. "To achieve this, Tasktop extends Eclipse Mylyn's open source task management facilities with support for enterprise ALM tools. Today we are pleased to announce new integrations for technologies from leaders in Agile and ALM, including ThoughtWorks Studios and IBM Rational."

Tasktop's connector suite for ThoughtWorks Adaptive ALM includes Mingle® (Agile project management), Twist® (test automation) and Cruise® (release management). The Mingle and Cruise integrations are available today, with the Twist integration set for availability with the general release of Twist 2.0 on March 31. The new connector for Twist provides tight integration with Mingle and the ability to focus the interface on only the test scenarios that are relevant for a given Mingle project card. The Cruise connector enables developers to initiate and monitor builds from within the Eclipse IDE.

CambridgeSoft uses JNBridgePro to simplify the complex task of Java and .NET interoperability

BOULDER, Colo., March 3, 2010 - JNBridge, (www.jnbridge.com), the award-winning provider of Java and .NET Framework-based interoperability tools, enabled developers at CambridgeSoft Corporation (www.cambridgesoft.com) to easily integrate Java-based digital signature APIs into their .NET-based electronic lab notebook product. CambridgeSoft supplies discovery, collaboration, and knowledge enterprise solutions, desktop software, scientific databases and consulting services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and chemical industries.

Using JNBridgePro, developers at CambridgeSoft now are easily able to integrate third-party Java-based digital signature technology into the .NET infrastructure of E-Notebook - CambridgeSoft's electronic lab notebook software - to quickly meet business and compliance requirements of a major pharmaceutical customer.

"It takes an incredible amount of work to solve such a complex interoperability problem," said Alfred Nehme, director of application development at CambridgeSoft. "JNBridgePro provided a level of Java and .NET integration that otherwise would have been very difficult and time-consuming to do ourselves."

Protecting intellectual property (IP) and adhering to government regulations are crucial requirements for organizations engaged in biotechnology, drug discovery and chemical research. To comply with record keeping requirements in laboratory notes, CambridgeSoft implements digital signature and efficient archiving capabilities in its E-Notebook product. Using Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) technology, E-Notebook can embed digital signatures and timestamps, creating a reliable electronic record that cannot be falsified.

Recently a major multinational pharmaceutical customer wanted to use CambridgeSoft's E-Notebook, but required a different Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) for digital signatures. The customer needed their chemists to sign experiments related to drug development using the same third-party, Java-based digital signature infrastructure that was already deployed in other parts of the company. To deliver this functionality, CambridgeSoft needed to integrate the required Java PKI API with E-Notebook, which is based on a .NET architecture. CambridgeSoft used JNBridgePro to simplify the interoperability between Java and .NET, allowing E-Notebook to call the Java APIs from .NET and thus fulfill their customer's requirements.

CambridgeSoft project leaders now are easily able to embed the needed Java digital signature APIs rapidly into the E-Notebook application. JNBridgePro includes proxy generation plug-ins for Eclipse and Visual Studio IDEs, as well as an intuitive standalone GUI. Using the GUI, CambridgeSoft developers created proxies for the Java APIs that simplified access to the needed Java classes.

"JNBridgePro enables developers to mix and match technologies between Java and .NET," said Wayne Citrin, CTO of JNBridge. "Customers appreciate the ability to retain their current investments while building applications that incorporate best-of-breed components from both platforms."

Latest update to Adaptive ALMTM suite drives productivity of QA, developers and business analysts, reduces development rework while keeping pace with rapid Agile releases

SAN FRANCISCO and BANGALORE, March 1, 2010 - ThoughtWorks Studios, (www.thoughtworks-studios.com) a global leader in Agile ALM and training, today announced the latest version of its Agile test automation solutions, Twist® 2.0. Designed to manage the rapid pace of software testing within Agile environments, Twist 2.0 helps testers, developers and business analysts work together to ensure testing is highly efficient and collaborative, resulting in faster release cycles of quality applications.

"It's very common for people involved in software testing to spend more time trying to keep their automated tests in synch with development rather than actually testing applications," said Cyndi Mitchell, managing director, for ThoughtWorks Studios. "Twist provides a framework for test automation and test-driven development that allows all stakeholders to build test suites and scenarios using plain English, thereby mitigating the complexity of traditional test automation."

Twist offers simplicity and an intuitive user experience to create highly robust and reusable test automation frameworks for both manual and functional automated tests. An integral part of ThoughtWorks Studios' Adaptive ALM solution, Twist provides continuous visibility into testing activities across distributed projects and teams.

Unlike traditional test tools, Twist uses Behavior Driven Development (BDD) and Domain Specific Language (DSL) to allow test automation specialists, developers and business analysts to work collaboratively as a means of ensuring testing efforts match the exact, intended functionality of new applications. This unique approach of using the English language to build test scripts expands the testing process to the "business side" of software development, reducing development re-work and faulty software that does not meet strategic business goals. Twist allows teams to adjust and/or react to change effectively through an open and flexible framework conducive to testing within short sprints or iterations. Ultimately, it allows the testing effort to keep pace with the increasingly rapid rate of application delivery.

New features in Twist 2.0 include:

Hybrid Test Execution - allows for manual and automated test steps within the same scenario. This improves collaboration and execution efficiency of both automated and manual testing efforts.

Improved Workflow Reuse - provides high level test scenarios and steps (manual and automated) that can be reused and shared within and across multiple projects.

Groovy Scripting - supports the Groovy dynamic Agile language for Java. It makes modern programming features available to Twist users with almost zero learning curve.

Additional Web Driver support for Sahi - testers have the option of using Sahi or Selenium for Web testing. The benefit of using Sahi is that it abstracts out most difficulties that testers face while automating Web applications.

SWTBOT support - allows Twist users to test Java SWT-based applications

Data Driven Scenarios - build data-driven tests on the fly for increased test coverage

ThoughtWorks Studios is the products division of the industry leading Agile consultancy ThoughtWorks®. Its Adaptive ALMTM solution includes Mingle® (project management), Twist® (test automation) and Cruise® (release management), to manage all aspects of the software development and delivery lifecycle - from requirements definition and portfolio management to test automation, quality assurance and release management.

Twist supports Agile ALM by combining requirements and test specification management and creation, and by providing manual and test automation to ensure quality throughout the application lifecycle. It plays a significant role in ThoughtWorks Studios' Adaptive ALM by providing a robust, reusable, multi-platform testing capability that ensures testing keeps pace with application development. Twist increases visibility and awareness of Agile testing activities by providing test results for processes managed by Mingle and Cruise. Together with Mingle, it connects directly to Mingle repositories and links story cards directly to Twist test scenarios. This provides full traceability of test and requirements coverage. When integrated with Cruise, Twist can export all of the necessary libraries to run test scenarios and suites. This allows tests to be run as part of a build (with reports of test results).

The most popular Scrum management tool continues to be guided
by user input from the Danube Community Portal

BELLEVUE, Wash., Feb. 1, 2010-Danube Technologies, Inc., (www.danube.com) the leader in project management tools and training for the Scrum project management framework, today announced the latest release of its ScrumWorks® Pro product. ScrumWorks Pro 4.3 includes improvements to the tool's Sprint Burndown Chart, Team Member Load Report and filtering with Themes. The release, which is the third upgrade since the enterprise-ready ScrumWorks Pro 4 was launched in Aug, 2009, represents Danube's commitment to responding quickly to customer feedback through the Danube Community Portal (http://community.danube.com).

"The level of participation among our users on the Danube Community Portal has been staggering," said Laszlo Szalvay, president and CEO of Danube. "Hearing from our user-base in such a direct way has allowed us to focus on improvements that generate immediate value for our users as well as accelerate the rate at which we deliver upgrades. In my mind, this is an illustration of what can happen when the makers of a tool and its community of users can unite around a common goal-improving project and program management with Scrum."

New features in ScrumWorks Pro 4.3 include:

Upgraded Sprint Burndown Chart. ScrumWorks Pro's Sprint Burndown Chart receives a major upgrade with the addition of a second line: tasks done/not done. This allows teams that do not use task-level estimation to nevertheless "burn down" tasks in Sprints.

Tasks No Longer Require Estimates. To help support task burndown in the Sprint Burndown Chart, tasks no longer require estimates.

Enhanced Team Member Load Report. This sprint-level report now displays the total task hours yet to be allocated to team members. This helps teams better visualize the total unallocated capacity in the sprint at any time.

Sub-Total for Selected Product Backlog Items and Tasks. Now users can select a sub-set of the product backlog or sprint from the Product window and receive an instant sub-total of the number of PBIs/Tasks and their corresponding effort estimates in the new status bar result in no more manual math.

Editor Enhancements. The work item editor now includes the item's key for easier identification.

Expanded Theme Filtering. When filtering using Themes, users now have the option to "exclude" selected Themes from filtered or highlighted results.

Fixes. Several issues have been resolved, including a security issue related to Active Directory installations configured to accept empty passwords, Java Web Start caching, and more.

Pricing and Availability
ScrumWorks Pro 4.3 is available now and can be purchased directly from Danube. Pricing is offered through an on-site, per-seat subscription license that starts at $289-per-user, per-year, or less than $25 per-user, per-month, as well as an on-site, per-seat fully paid license for $500. For more information on ScrumWorks Pro, visit www.danube.com/scrumworks/pro.
