WHAT: Spread Spectrum Systems for EFM and SCADA (Class 3155.1)

As oil and gas companies work toward greater automation and e-business solutions, the challenges of getting real-time, reliable data from remote locations continues to be one of the greatest hurdles. Today, there are many fine choices in electronic flow measurement (EFM) and remote terminal unit (RTU) equipment available. There also are many fine "bug free" software programs to archive, audit and display the collected data. The single biggest problem remains communications. It is a commonly held belief that over 80 percent of all SCADA system problems are communication failures.
A few years ago, a new radio medium became available. This system operates on a shared frequency, and is called spread spectrum. This relatively new technology offers many advantages and new versatility to SCADA operators. Gardner will discuss the benefits and options when using spread spectrum for EFM and SCADA.

Hands-On Training Class - Wireless Communication (Class 973.1)

Berridge will lead a hands-on class on how to set up serial networks, using wireless spread spectrum radios. The in-depth demonstration will show participants how they can use spread spectrum radios to incorporate wireless communications radios in a wide variety of applications. Participants will have the chance to configure, test and actually use the radios in a networked configuration as part of their in-class experience.

WHERE: Cox Business Services Convention Center
Oklahoma City, OK

WHEN: Spread Spectrum Systems for EFM and SCADA - Class 3155.1
Wednesday, May 12 from 8 a.m. - 8:50 a.m.

WHAT: "Wireless Communication to a Plunger Lift Well"
Wednesday, May 12, 2 p.m. - 2:45p.m

In recent years, artificial lift technologies and processes have become increasingly popular as methods for optimizing oil and gas production. In addition, automation electronics manufacturers have been focusing a great deal of their development efforts on plunger lift control applications. Artificial lift is a process that allows producers to optimize well production while also minimizing overall maintenance and life cycle costs. This presentation will explain the benefits of plunger lift control automation and the newest, best, and most novel control methods that are used.

"Bringing it Together - Hybrid Wireless Systems can be Leveraged to Your Advantage"
Thursday, May 13, 10 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.

Companies with large geographically dispersed remote networks can select one technology, one source, one vendor to collect, retrieve and report data to assess the health of the network. Sometimes, this type of approach makes sense. However, other times integrating different types of technologies offer significant benefits that can easily and more cost-effectively be incorporated into one cohesive network. This presentation will provide attendees with specific ways they can set up and deploy hybrid networks to drive maintenance/monthly costs down - directly impacting their bottom line; decrease polling cycle times; reduce the time needed to identify and rectify problems within the network; and, eliminate single points of failure.

BOULDER, Colo., March 8, 2010 - FreeWave Technologies, (http://www.freewave.com), manufacturer of the most reliable, high-performance spread spectrum and licensed radios for critical data transmission, today announced the latest version of its DataLogger software. This new version includes a number of enhancements and is bundled together with FreeWave's Tool Suite TM V.2.6, the latest version of FreeWave's Tool Suite platform management system. The updated software is free to all FreeWave customers.

FreeWave's DataLogger software assists in remotely monitoring and reporting cathodic protection (CP) operational values for pipelines, tanks, structures and other underground facilities that are subject to environmental corrosion in industries such as oil and gas and water/wastewater. The latest CP DataLogger offers a new drag and drop grouping feature, a tree view control to visually indicate the relationship between groups and member sites, and a more scalable database. FreeWave's Tool Suite is a software platform for managing radio configuration and network diagnostics needs from a single interface.

"We decided to incorporate our latest version of the CP DataLogger within Tool Suite V.2.6 to provide our cathodic protection customers with the benefits of Tool Suite, as well as the ability to continually install Tool Suite updates," explained Craig Held, business advisor and acting CP product manager at FreeWave. "The Tool Suite/DataLogger combined offering will have the same easy-to-install features as previous versions of the software."

Now that DataLogger is bundled with Tool Suite, FreeWave's CP customers also can take advantage of recent updates to Tool Suite, including:
- Enhanced configuration and network diagnostics, including a new radio templating feature and optimized radio settings display.
- Updated firmware.
- Additional radio support for several series of FreeWave radios, such as the I2-IO slave and CP 2.4 GHz radios.

Tool Suite V.2.6 with CP DataLogger will be available for delivery at the end of March and is free to FreeWave customers. Existing ToolSuite and CP DataLogger customers can download the latest version by clicking on the "Updates" button in the lower left hand corner of their ToolSuite/DataLogger application. Customers who want to download ToolSuite/DataLogger for the first time need to contact FreeWave's Technical Support Department (see contact information below) and request a customer log-in.

WHAT: "The Evolution of Data Collection for Gas Measurement"

In our evolving world of oil and gas production, more data is being requested more often. Almost continuous polling and higher transmission speeds are requiring communications systems to evolve from a single network solution into multiple networks, each of these networks provides layers of communication. To create these multiple layers requires multiple products. These layers must have common interfaces and the ability to pass data seamlessly between them. This presentation will discuss how the technologies for gas measurement have evolved and attendees will learn best practices for reliable and efficient data collection today.

FreeWave appoints company veteran Colin Lippincott to head up its renewable energy practice

BOULDER, Colo., Oct. 19, 2009 -- FreeWave Technologies, (http://www.freewave.com), manufacturer of the most reliable, high-performance spread spectrum and licensed radios for critical data transmission, today announced it is expanding into the fast-growing solar power generation market. As the leading independent developer and manufacturer of Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) wireless data radio technology, FreeWave has been producing some of the world's most sophisticated wireless data radios for the past 16 years. Its radios are implemented in locations spanning the globe, including "solar friendly" locales, such as the American Southwest, the Middle East, Mexico, China and more. Some of the world's largest energy companies, defense contractors, city and county municipalities and industrial manufacturers rely on FreeWave radios daily for mission critical communications.

In the solar power generation market, FreeWave's industry-leading wireless data radios address a wide range of wireless applications that support monitoring and control for all types of solar power generation models - from solar troughs, dishes, photovoltaic (tracking and stationary) and heliostats. The company's wireless technologies will help solar power generation providers lower their installation and infrastructure costs, while also offering reliable, robust communication performance with dependable, easily installed networks.

"Today's solar power generation companies face several challenges, including the need to easily build an infrastructure capable of accurately monitoring data results and controlling systems in real-time," explained Colin Lippincott, leader of FreeWave's renewable energy practice. "FreeWave's solutions address these factors eliminating solar power generation providers' need to trench and to run fiber or wire This provides them with a strong ROI-based resource that reduces their initial capital investment and long-term maintenance costs while also providing all of the necessary communications. These factors, combined with FreeWave's superior, reliable technology and best-in-class service and support, are key benefits we can offer to solar power generation providers and why we are the preferred choice among OEMs in the energy, military, agriculture markets and more."

A company executive and veteran, Lippincott has been with FreeWave since 2003. He has led the company's sales and marketing efforts since first hired until most recently being appointed to head up its renewable energy efforts.

Lippincott says the solar power generation industry is a perfect fit for FreeWave's wireless data radios. Because the industry is still in its infancy and expected to grow at a fast clip, FreeWave's radios fill an especially critical need as solar power generation networks are being built. According to a report by JP Morgan, cited in Greentech Media, solar power generation providers are expected to grow faster almost than other industry for the next 10 years and will surpass Germany as the largest market for solar power in the world by 2011.

FreeWave will be demonstrating its solar power generation wireless data radio offerings in booth #2750 at the upcoming the Solar Power International Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif., October 27-29, 2009.

About FreeWave Technologies
Founded in 1993, FreeWave Technologies manufactures the most reliable, high performing, lowest power consumption, spread spectrum and licensed radios for mission-critical data transmission.
WHAT: Wireless 101: From Remote Site to Desktop with Wireless Connectivity

Fifteen years ago, even the more advanced automation systems seldom supported telemetry. Systems that did employ telemetry offered very slow data throughput and rarely could provide coverage to every automated location, limiting their usefulness. Today, it's common to have 100 percent communication to all field locations, and to experience data throughput from the field of 19.2 or even 38.4 K baud. High-speed backbone telemetry is now available in the megabits range. Wireless instrumentation is the latest telemetry trend, supporting analog and digital signals without the constraints of a wired connection. Now, it can be used to communicate to and from pressure or temperature transducers, to control valves remotely, to signal the arrival of switch closures, or to report status changes or contact closures. This presentation will explore all of the various options available to companies in selecting their wireless network solutions and offer key considerations when evaluating what solution works best for their environment and application.

FreeWave's ongoing success leads to its 30th consecutive bonus payout to employees

BOULDER, Colo. - August 12, 2009 -FreeWave Technologies, (http://www.freewave.com), manufacturer of the most reliable, high-performance spread spectrum and licensed radios for critical data transmission, continues its solid record of growth and investments through the first half of 2009. As has been true for the past 14 years, the company shares its success with its employees through regular, twice-a-year bonus payouts. The most recent, paid on July 23, was the 30th consecutive bonus payment since 1995. Payments are based on company profitability and individual performance.

Despite economic challenges, FreeWave also continues to invest in hiring, new product development and market expansion. For example, FreeWave expects to increase it's year-to-year headcount and is looking to fill several sales and product management positions. In addition, FreeWave has issued a steady stream of new products this year, including the IMCP 2.4 GHz, FGR2 Series; LRS455 Series; Tool Suite; and, most recently, new additions to its industry-leading MM2 radios. The company is expanding into new markets as well, both geographically and vertically.

"We continue to be successful, despite challenging times for many, because of the dedication and hard work of our employees," explained Ken Granader, vice president of sales at FreeWave. "Each and every day our employees give 100 percent plus to our organization, and especially to our customers, who are the reason we continue to thrive."

Just more than four months ago, FreeWave also gave its employees the third installment of a $9 million equity bonus payout. This one-time bonus, part of a $113 million private-equity transaction, was given by Company Founders Steve Wulchin and Jonathan Sawyer to reward their employees for their contributions. This payout was in addition to the ongoing bi-annual bonus payout employees regularly receive.

The bonuses come in the midst of an economy that continues to struggle, with many companies continuing to make major budget cuts - including the elimination of bonus programs. In the eyes of Co-founders Wulchin and Sawyer, however, this program is essential in maintaining FreeWave's leading position in the wireless data radio market. Wulchin and Sawyer always have believed that in order to succeed, they need to make ongoing investments in their employees.

"It's deeply rooted in our philosophy," explained Granader. "Work hard and invest in the things that really matter. To us, that is our customers and employees. To this day, it's never failed us."

WHAT: "The Advantages of Implementing Wireless IO"

This hands-on workshop will show attendees how new spread spectrum technologies give users the ability to connect instrumentation in the field without the need for costly wired infrastructure. Attendees will benefit from this presentation by acquiring the information necessary to make wireless IO business decisions.

"Wireless Communication to a Plunger Lift Well"

Traditionally, an operator was required to manually shut in the well to create pressure downhole in wells that suffered from heavy fluid loads. Artificial lift is a method used to build enough downhole pressure to lift or produce the liquid from the well. With options for communicating plunger lift data to the RTU being wired or wireless, producers have a decision to consider. To support producers' plunger lift control objectives, automation electronics manufacturers have been focusing a great deal of their development efforts on the plunger lift control applications. Today, these technologies can be supported at the site with either wired or wireless solutions. This presentation will discuss wireless as an alternative to wired solutions. It presents some of the capabilities of wireless that are on par with wired and some that are superior. Also presented is a simple set of economic inputs that can be used as guidelines for making the choice between wired and wireless options.

Boulder, Colo., June 29, 2009 - FreeWave Technologies, (http://www.freewave.com), manufacturer of the most reliable, high-performance spread spectrum and licensed radios for critical data transmission, today announced the availability of the LRS455. The newest licensed radio from FreeWave offers the lowest power consumption, transmission range and receiver sensitivity available in the market. Due to superior RF propagation characteristics (430-470 MHz at 2 watts), the LRS455 is ideal for rugged and heavily treed terrain applications in oil and gas, water/wastewater, electric and municipality markets.

"Customers increasingly need to access critical data from difficult terrains, and the board level and enclosed LRS455 radios provide outstanding performance and versatility to meet this growing demand," said Ken Granader, vice president of sales at FreeWave. "As always, this latest offering blends the highest level of field performance with the lowest power consumption to help customers incorporate wireless communications into a wider variety of applications."

The LRS455 complements FreeWave's industry leading licensed radios, the LRS-760 and LRS-140. It offers a faster data rate and more noise immunity than competitors' offerings and is perfectly suited for long-distance SCADA applications located within rough terrain or heavy tree coverage. The propagation characteristics at 430-470 MHz at 2 watts are significantly better than higher frequencies at 1 watt, making the LRS455 radio ideal for areas with heavy interference. Field tests also show that the LRS455 performs at a four- to five-times greater range than competitive offerings.

The LRS455 provides advanced system and network management capabilities through the recently introduced FreeWave Tool Suite, an integrated software platform for all aspects of radio and network configuration and diagnostics.

Some of the key technical specs of the LRS455 include:

Customizable to user needs - users can select whatever range they wish across the 435-470 MHz spectrum.

High Speed -19200 bps throughput on a 12.5 kHz channel.

Long Range - 70 mile range with clear line of sight and the ability to extend through a repeater.

- High Noise Immunity - Superior performance in noise-congested environments.

The LRS455 is available for immediate shipment and is available in board level or enclosed formats. Additional information, including detailed specifications, is available online at http://www.freewave.com/LRS455 or by contacting the company at 800-548-5616.

WHO: FreeWave Technologies, Inc.

Brent McAdams
Director, Major Accounts
Product Development Manager, Wireless IO Systems

McAdams is director of major accounts and product development manager of wireless IO systems at FreeWave Technologies, Inc., a premier RF design and manufacturing organization. Prior to joining FreeWave Technologies, Mr. McAdams served as the Vice President of Technology and Business Development for the U.S. Telemetry Corporation where he led product development strategy and business development initiatives. Additionally, Mr. McAdams spent more than 10 years as a contract Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer with Exxon Chemical in Baton Rouge, LA.

Jim Gardner
Business Development Manager, Oil & Gas

Gardner is the oil and gas team leader for FreeWave Technologies, Inc. Prior to joining FreeWave, Gardner was Vice President at Remote Operating Systems. Gardner graduated from the University of Washington in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Gardner is currently a member of ENTELEC, ASGMT and ISHM.

Founded in 1993, FreeWave Technologies is a world leader in the innovative design and manufacture of license-free spread spectrum and licensed band radios and wireless data solutions that are trusted for mission critical applications around the world. www.freewave.com

WHAT: What is the 700 MHz Spectrum in my World and How Can I Get it? (Brent McAdams)
Mission-critical processes are measured by their ability to meet uptime and performance requirements, especially with wireless. Carrier-grade wireless equipment and 700MHz licensed high-speed spectrum is now available, for the first time, to deploy for gas measurement communications. The 700 MHz licensed spectrum (versus unlicensed) provides a predictable RF environment protected from external interference, thus improving control over band management, security and speed. In addition, it provides privacy and extraordinary propagation. As a result, the broad propagation characteristics reduce the number and height of towers needed, resulting in a more cost-effective deployment. Now, new technologies are being introduced specifically for use in this spectrum. This paper will explore these technologies and offer participants a hands-on look on how to effectively deploy them.

Leveraging Hybrid Wireless Systems (Jim Gardner)
Companies with large geographically dispersed remote networks in the oil and gas industry can select one technology, one source, one vendor to collect, retrieve and report data to assess the health of the network. Sometimes, this type of approach makes sense. However, other times integrating other types of technologies offer significant benefits that can easily and more cost-effectively be incorporated into one cohesive network. This presentation will provide attendees with specific ways they can set up and deploy hybrid networks to drive maintenance/monthly costs down - directly impacting their bottom line; decrease polling cycle times; reduce the time needed to identify and rectify problems within the network; and, eliminate system "pinch points" - or single points of failure.

Newest cathodic protection radio offers increased speed and opens up new markets with 2.4 GHz spectrum

BOULDER, Colo., Jan. 29, 2009 - FreeWave Technologies, (http://www.freewave.com), the largest independent provider of high performance spread spectrum and licensed radio products and services, today announced the newest addition to its family of Cathodic Protection (CP) radios for automated pipeline integrity monitoring. The new IMCP 2.4 GHz is a pipeline integrity and cathodic protection radio that communicates at 2.4 GHz and complements the company's previously released 900 MHz versions. According to FreeWave, the new radio has application potential in nearly every market in the world. The IMCP 2.4 GHz radio offers monitoring and reporting of operational values of pipelines, storage tanks, structures and other equipment or facilities subject to environmental corrosion. The IMCP 2.4 GHz also is ideal for pipeline and storage tank companies wishing to extend their investment in remote telemetry automation to cathodic protection

The IMCP product from FreeWave currently is available as a radio only with a turnkey line marker kit option in development. The radio is a multi-purpose, spread spectrum, board-level product with specific inputs and outputs for automated monitoring of pipeline integrity. In the corrosion prevention industry, the IMCP 2.4 GHz monitors pipe-to-soil test stations, rectifier stations, critical bonds, interference points, pipeline pressure stations and pipeline scrubbing stations, for example. Benefits include safeguarding oil and gas pipelines in gathering systems, transmission lines and/or distributions lines. Benefits extend to municipal water and waste water systems by automating the remote monitoring of critical pipes and culverts to help prevent corrosion that can lead to leaks, groundwater contamination and other such adverse scenarios affecting overall water quality, supply and/or public safety - even cataclysmic main failures and the sometimes resultant infrastructure messes.

The CP systems from FreeWave can be deployed as standalone communications networks. They also can seamlessly be integrated into an existing FreeWave network. For example, where a FreeWave network already exists, such as in a natural gas field, the CP systems can be positioned on the gathering system pipeline and linked back to the host via the existing network. They are easy to install and can bring data into the network nearly immediately and without monthly service charges.

"A key building block to a cost effective, pipeline integrity, corrosion protection program is vital, timely monitoring and reporting of cathodic protection data. With the IMCP 2.4 GHz, data can be reported from remote corrosion protection field sites to a centralized data collection system that integrates with an automated regulatory reporting system," explained Colin Lippincott, FreeWave spokesperson. "FreeWave's new IMCP 2.4 GHz cathodic protection monitoring radio connects directly into field assets and feeds critical pipeline information into existing company data systems without going outside the company's firewall security protection - an important criteria our customers continue to request."

The IMCP 2.4 GHz board-level product is available for immediate shipment. Additional information regarding FreeWave's cathodic protection solutions, including detailed specifications, is available online at http://www.freewave.com/files/datasheets/FGRCP%202.4%20-%2011.13.08.pdf or by contacting the company at 800-548-5616.
