WHAT: ”The Evolution of Data Collection for Gas Measurement”
In our evolving world of oil and gas production, more data is being requested more often. Almost continuous polling and higher transmission speeds are requiring communications systems to evolve from a single network solution into multiple networks, each of these networks provides layers of communication. To create these multiple layers requires multiple products. These layers must have common interfaces and the ability to pass data seamlessly between them. This presentation will discuss how the technologies for gas measurement have evolved and attendees will learn best practices for reliable and efficient data collection today.

New FGR2-PE combines both serial and Ethernet wireless connectivity for key Smart Grid applications such as distribution automation
BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 16, 2010 — FreeWave Technologies, (http://www.freewave.com), manufacturer of the most reliable, high-performance spread spectrum and licensed radios for critical data transmission, today announced the release of the new FGR2-PE, a data radio ideal for Smart Grid and renewable energy, that offers industrial serial and Ethernet wireless connectivity using license-free spread spectrum for data communication over long distances. In addition, the FGR2-PE is well suited for similar SCADA applications in other vertical markets such as oil and gas or water/wastewater.
The FGR2-PE is compatible with other FreeWave FGR plus family radios and offers users a second, switched Ethernet port as well as two serial ports to meet the demands of customers’ wireless automation requirements. The future-proof combination of two serial ports and two switched Ethernet ports offers customers the ability to transition from serial to Ethernet data communication without having to replace their wireless communication hardware down the road, or operate both serial and Ethernet communication independently and simultaneously on the same platform. This cost-effective flexibility of the FGR2-PE product also reduces the need for additional hardware.
“The FGR2-PE is an ideal platform for the wireless transmission of critical data and offers the same proven reliability and quality that our customers have come to know and expect in our radios,” said Matthias van Doorn, product manager Ethernet and licensed radio systems at FreeWave. “In particular, our utility customers appreciate its industry-leading RF performance as well as the versatility and flexibility of the new FGR2-PE to support distribution automation, alternative energy applications like wind and solar power, and many other telemetry and SCADA applications within the Smart Grid.”
Additional key benefits of the FGR2-PE include:
The FGR2-PE radios are available now. Additional information is available online at http://www.freewave.com/products/product-274.html or by contacting FreeWave at 866-923-9948.

FreeWave appoints company veteran Colin Lippincott to head up its renewable energy practice
BOULDER, Colo., Oct. 19, 2009 — FreeWave Technologies, (http://www.freewave.com), manufacturer of the most reliable, high-performance spread spectrum and licensed radios for critical data transmission, today announced it is expanding into the fast-growing solar power generation market. As the leading independent developer and manufacturer of Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) wireless data radio technology, FreeWave has been producing some of the world’s most sophisticated wireless data radios for the past 16 years. Its radios are implemented in locations spanning the globe, including “solar friendly” locales, such as the American Southwest, the Middle East, Mexico, China and more. Some of the world’s largest energy companies, defense contractors, city and county municipalities and industrial manufacturers rely on FreeWave radios daily for mission critical communications.
In the solar power generation market, FreeWave’s industry-leading wireless data radios address a wide range of wireless applications that support monitoring and control for all types of solar power generation models – from solar troughs, dishes, photovoltaic (tracking and stationary) and heliostats. The company’s wireless technologies will help solar power generation providers lower their installation and infrastructure costs, while also offering reliable, robust communication performance with dependable, easily installed networks.
“Today’s solar power generation companies face several challenges, including the need to easily build an infrastructure capable of accurately monitoring data results and controlling systems in real-time,” explained Colin Lippincott, leader of FreeWave’s renewable energy practice. “FreeWave’s solutions address these factors eliminating solar power generation providers’ need to trench and to run fiber or wire This provides them with a strong ROI-based resource that reduces their initial capital investment and long-term maintenance costs while also providing all of the necessary communications. These factors, combined with FreeWave’s superior, reliable technology and best-in-class service and support, are key benefits we can offer to solar power generation providers and why we are the preferred choice among OEMs in the energy, military, agriculture markets and more.”
A company executive and veteran, Lippincott has been with FreeWave since 2003. He has led the company’s sales and marketing efforts since first hired until most recently being appointed to head up its renewable energy efforts.
Lippincott says the solar power generation industry is a perfect fit for FreeWave’s wireless data radios. Because the industry is still in its infancy and expected to grow at a fast clip, FreeWave’s radios fill an especially critical need as solar power generation networks are being built. According to a report by JP Morgan, cited in Greentech Media, solar power generation providers are expected to grow faster almost than other industry for the next 10 years and will surpass Germany as the largest market for solar power in the world by 2011.
FreeWave will be demonstrating its solar power generation wireless data radio offerings in booth #2750 at the upcoming the Solar Power International Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif., October 27-29, 2009.

WHAT: Wireless 101: From Remote Site to Desktop with Wireless Connectivity
Fifteen years ago, even the more advanced automation systems seldom supported telemetry. Systems that did employ telemetry offered very slow data throughput and rarely could provide coverage to every automated location, limiting their usefulness. Today, it’s common to have 100 percent communication to all field locations, and to experience data throughput from the field of 19.2 or even 38.4 K baud. High-speed backbone telemetry is now available in the megabits range. Wireless instrumentation is the latest telemetry trend, supporting analog and digital signals without the constraints of a wired connection. Now, it can be used to communicate to and from pressure or temperature transducers, to control valves remotely, to signal the arrival of switch closures, or to report status changes or contact closures. This presentation will explore all of the various options available to companies in selecting their wireless network solutions and offer key considerations when evaluating what solution works best for their environment and application.
