WHO: Brent McAdams
Director of Sales
FreeWave Technologies
Jim Gardner
Oil and Gas Sales Manager
FreeWave Technologies
Founded in 1993, FreeWave Technologies is a world leader in the innovative design and manufacture of ISM band radios and wireless data solutions that are trusted for mission critical applications around the world. www.freewave.com.
WHAT: PANEL: “New Products in Data Acquisition and Communications”
G2 – Tues., Sept. 16, 2008 – 11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.
New technologies are being introduced specifically for use in the 700 MHz licensed spectrum. The 700 MHz licensed spectrum (versus unlicensed) provides a predictable RF environment protected from external interference, thus improving control over band management, security and speed. In addition, it provides privacy and extraordinary propagation. As a result, the broad propagation characteristics reduce the number and height of towers needed, resulting in a more cost-effective deployment. Mr. McAdams will explore these technologies and offer participants an overview on how to effectively deploy them.
”Strategic Implementation of Wireless Technologies”
H3 – Tues., Sept. 16, 2008 – 1:15 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Mr. McAdams will discuss the evolution in wireless technologies and how it has opened the door to a new class of automation architecture that offers adopters a significant strategic advantage. Driven by substantial and measurable cost savings in engineering, installation and logistics, coupled with dramatic improvements in the frequency and reliability of field data collection, automation experts and IT professionals are presented with an opportunity to deliver a major, positive impact to their respective company’s bottom line.
Hands-On Class: “FreeWave Technologies – FreeWave Radios”
L5 – Tues., Sept. 16, 2008 – 3:15 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Mr. Gardner will lead a hands-on class on how to set up serial networks, using wireless spread spectrum radios. The in-depth demonstration will show participants how they can use spread spectrum radios to incorporate wireless communications radios in a wide variety of applications. Participants will have the chance to configure, test and actually use the radios in a networked configuration as part of their in-class experience.

Joint offering will deliver cost-competitive, flexible and robust wireless communication solution to Oil and Gas, Electric Power and Utility Industries on the 700 MHz spectrum
BOULDER, Colo. & NEW YORK, September 10, 2008 – FreeWave Technologies (http://www.freewave.com), the largest independent provider of high performance spread spectrum and licensed radio products and services, and Arcadian Networks (http://www.arcadiannetworks.com), a wireless communications carrier serving energy companies with dispersed assets (electric, gas and water utilities, and oil and gas companies), announced today that they have delivered a new 700 MHz wireless radio to serve the energy industry. The announcement comes just six months after the two companies announced a joint strategic partnership back in March of this year.
The delivery of the 700 MHz radio to the marketplace provides an opportunity for electric utilities and oil and gas companies to incorporate an advanced ISM band radio technology and wireless data solutions on a 700 MHz private, licensed and secure communication platform as a single, seamless and integrated “Smart Grid” or “Smart Field” solution. Arcadian Networks and FreeWave will each market, sell and distribute FreeWave’s 700MHz radio providing electric utilities and oil and gas companies’ greater equipment diversity and flexible bandwidth and deployment options.
“The FreeWave radios enhance Arcadian Networks’ custom, private, wireless services, with new voice and data capabilities,” explained Jake Rasweiller, vice president of engineering and network operations at Arcadian. “Providing our customers with diversity of choice, scalable performance, and flexible price-points is an essential element of our service in building out the nation’s only mission-critical network devoted to electric utilities and oil and gas companies. FreeWave’s 700 MHz wireless radio is a great proof point of this philosophy.”
The FreeWave Technologies 700 MHz family of board level radios provides outstanding performance and versatility in a small footprint that is ideal for internally mounted applications. The board level radio offers a cost-effective solution that allows customers to incorporate wireless communications into a wide variety of applications. With interface options available, a 6-30 VDC input voltage, a temperature range of -30°C to +70°C, surface mount design, and no additional RF shielding. This board level product has tremendous flexibility for use in U.S. applications.
“The 700MHz band offers a great solution to those looking for a choice. Now, oil and gas and utility companies can realize the combined benefits of having a private, secure network with the most advanced, reliable and robust radio communications technology of its kind,” said Colin Lippincott, FreeWave Technologies spokesperson. “It opens up applications and opportunities for the companies that want a licensed network and don’t want to use or cannot use other licensed options.”
The 700 MHz family of radios is available now. Contact either FreeWave or Arcadian Networks (see company contact info below) for more information.

Brent McAdams is the Director of Sales at FreeWave Technologies, Inc., a premier RF design and manufacturing organization. Prior to joining FreeWave Technologies, Mr. McAdams served as the Vice President of Technology and Business Development for the U.S. Telemetry Corporation where he led product development strategy and business development initiatives. WHAT: Optimizing Operations by Automating Remote Cathodic Protection Systems
Energy and Pipeline Companies wrestle to control operating costs largely affected by new government regulations, ageing buried metal assets, rising steel prices, expanding pipeline operations, new interference points, HCA encroachment, restrictive land use policies, heightened network security, and an ageing soon-to-retire work force. With operating costs on the rise, seemingly out of control, many CP and Operations Professionals look to past best practices in cost containment through automation. Many companies achieve solid business results through deployment of telemetry and SCADA automation of remote assets and now hope to expand this success to further optimize operations by automating remote cathodic protection systems.
This presentation will provide examples of how new remote cathodic protection systems are helping energy and pipeline companies address the growing issue of the ageing pipeline infrastructure and reduce their costs while optimizing their operations.

New program allows FreeWave’s channel partners to receive attractive discounts for its newest wireless radio, the FGR2-IOS, for resale to end users
BOULDER, Colo. – Sept. 4, 2008 — FreeWave Technologies, the largest independent provider of high performance spread spectrum and licensed radio products and services, today announced it has launched a new 12-pack reseller program that provides significant discounts to resellers of its newly introduced FGR2-IOS 900 MHz IO radio. Preliminary response to the program already has been strong, according to company officials.
Under the terms of the program, select resellers of FreeWave’s wireless spread spectrum radios can purchase its FGR2-IOS radios (both board level and enclosed) at a reduced price in packaged quantities of 12. Interested channel partners can still sign up for the last 2008 reseller certification training and take advantage of the premium program option – subject to class availability (contact FreeWave at the phone number below for more information or to sign up).
The FGR2-IOS (30VIO) radio provides outstanding performance and versatility in wireless transmission of process-control signals. The FGR2-IOS provides remote control and monitoring of tanks, lifting stations, pumps, flow meters, fluid levels, water sources, temperatures and pressures typical of the water/wastewater and oil and gas industries.
Eliminating the need for signal wire connections at the master and thereby greatly reducing costs, the FGR2-IOS delivers data from remote analog and digital devices over a wireless link to a remote terminal unit (RTU) or programmable logic controller (PLC).
“We are pleased to offer this special program to our channel partners,” said Robert Clark, IO Systems Product Manager at FreeWave. “The market is hungry for this type of solution and this special pricing makes it even more attractive and easy for resellers to add it to their arsenal of product offerings to end users.”
Clark said that the program applies to both FreeWave’s FGR2-IOS board level and enclosed radio versions.
In addition, he says that FreeWave will provide training, technical support and marketing materials for all resellers who participate in the program.
The FGR2-IOS 12-pack program runs until December18. Program pricing is specific to new orders only.
