Company partnered with Homeland Security Group to provide a best-in-class security solution for Aluma that protected valuable building metal and yielded an ROI in two months

LOUISVILLE, Colo., Aug. 25, 2010 - Inovonics (http://www.inovonics.com), the industry leader in high-performance wireless sensor networks for commercial and life safety applications, today announced it has been selected as a finalist for Security Technology Executive magazine's prestigious annual Security Innovation Award.

The Sixth Annual Security Innovation Awards, presented by Security Technology Executive (STE) magazine (http://www.securityinfowatch.com/files/ste/2010/ste_2010_innovation_award.pdf), is the only program that honors the best and most unique security technology applications in the industry. STE is honoring the most innovative technologies, design strategies and facility applications in the United States. Organizations are selected based on tackling a challenging security application and providing a successful solution. The winner and finalists will be announced in STE's September issue.

Inovonics' award submission centered on the joint work it did with security provider Homeland Security Group (HSG), a division of Easter Security (http://www.easterslock.com), to create a perimeter security solution for Aluma Energy (http://www.aluma.com/) that would keep intruders out of its outdoor metal scrap yard that contained valuable aluminum and steel metal. Together, Inovonics and HSG quickly determined a solution, installed the security system within 40 hours and not only helped Aluma alleviate the theft that was taking place on its premises, but saved it money in the process over its previous security system. Within just two months, Aluma realized a return on its investment.

"We are honored to be selected as a finalist for this well-respected industry award," said Mark Jarman, president of Inovonics. "It is gratifying for Inovonics and our partner, HSG, to be recognized as a top innovator in the industry. A cost-effective, reliable and proven system, and top-notch customer service were the key elements in what was a very successful joint implementation for Aluma and most likely the driving force behind our selection as a finalist."

FREEWAVE TECHNOLOGIES' CRAIG HELD TO SPEAK ON BATTERY-POWERED REMOTE MONITORING AT NACE CENTRAL AREA CONFERENCE 2010

WHO: Craig Held
General Manager, International
FreeWave Technologies, Inc.

Craig Held is general manager of FreeWave Technologies' international operations and also serves as acting cathodic protection product manager.

Founded in 1993, FreeWave Technologies is a world leader in the innovative design/manufacture of license-free spread spectrum, licensed band radios and wireless data solutions that are trusted for mission critical applications around the world (www.freewave.com).

WHAT: "Applications and Innovations for Battery-powered Remote Monitoring"

As automated remote monitoring with wireless data communication radios increasingly are becoming a popular choice for many pipeline, energy and utility operators, additional wireless options have begun to emerge. Battery-powered remote monitoring is a new solution that is available for pipe-to-soil measurement. Unlike a traditional wireless system, this automated remote monitoring system option can be submersed and installed underground.

Traditionally, a technician would manually collect pipe-to-soil measurements while making inspections of the right of way or the effected structure. Battery-powered remote monitoring eliminates the need for manual measurements and provides real-time data from the field directly to the user's fingertips. This new remote monitoring option eliminates the need for solar panels and, because it can reside underground, decreases the chance of theft and vandalism. Using battery-powered remote monitoring can bring the price of remote monitoring down to the point where it's feasible to eliminate most, if not all, pipe-to-soil manual monitoring.

These new systems are designed for pipe-to-soil users who are committed to exceeding compliance requirements and moving from measurement to active mitigation.. This presentation will discuss remote monitoring options that are available and affordable in a secure proprietary network with no connection fees. In addition, it will provide a real-world case study example of how technologies, like this, are being deployed at a major international airport to improve its automated monitoring.

OBAMA ADMINISTRATION'S FUNDING FOR ASSISTED LIVING SENIOR HOUSING POSES CHALLENGE IN CONVERTING EXISTING STRUCTURES

Existing multi-family apartment owners need an efficient and cost-effective way to retrofit them for safe, secure senior living

WHO: Mark Jarman, president
Inovonics
Inovonics is a leader in high-performance wireless sensor networks for commercial and life safety applications. (www.inovonics.com)

WHAT: The uncertainty of the housing market combined with the aging baby boom generation is prompting developers to plan hundreds of new senior housing units across the country. According to the American Health Care Association, the number of people aged 65 and older is supposed to almost double to more than 71 million by the year 2030. A key indicator of these rapidly growing trends can be seen in an announcement made last week by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) (http://portal.hud.gov/portal/page/portal/HUD/press/press_releases_media_advisories/2010/HUDNo.10-165) stating that it awarded almost $20 million to four states for conversion of existing multi-family apartment dwellings into assisted living senior care facilities. The monies will allow the elderly an opportunity to age in a place in familiar surroundings as they become older and require supportive services. However, the ability to move quickly while keeping costs down to convert these living quarters so that states can take advantage of the federal funding poses a challenge. Existing buildings need to have life safety devices and call systems installed to ensure that seniors can receive help and assistance immediately if needed. Traditionally, this required re-wiring of the existing structure, which is costly and labor- and time-intensive. The grants are awarded on a competitive basis. During the review process, HUD assesses several ranking factors including: the extent to which the conversion is needed by the persons that the project is intended to serve and the capacity of the project owner to carry out the conversion in a timely and effective manner. How do property owners who wish to take advantage of the federal funding overcome the potential challenges in making their existing apartment complexes "assisted living-ready?"

HOW: Commercial-grade wireless products provide the best solution for retrofitting a call system and life safety capabilities into existing facilities without pulling wire and disrupting the building's structure. Specifically designed for security and life safety applications, wireless sensor network products can be quickly and easily installed to provide emergency call and life safety capabilities for apartment buildings as well as be used in situations where the location of a mobile alarming device (duress pendant) can be identified anywhere across a building or campus. The result is building owners can retrofit their existing apartment complexes quickly at lower cost than traditional wired approaches and be assured of proven, reliable performance for their senior residents.

Latest offering provides new Remote Data Logger and TapWatch 3 software for easier site set-up, meter data retrieval and faster billing while incentivizing water conservation

NEW ORLEANS, La. (NAA, Booth #343), June 24, 2010 - Inovonics (http://www.inovonics.com), the industry leader in high-performance wireless sensor networks for commercial and life safety applications, today announced the latest release of its Remote Data Logger (RDL) 8500 and accompanying TapWatch 3 software utility submetering solution for multi-family properties. Together, the RDL8500 and TapWatch 3 combine to create the latest evolution in Inovonics' submetering systems enabling users to perform site set-up, retrieve meter-reads directly from multi-family properties and quickly generate information for billing purposes. In addition, the new submetering solution provides commercial property managers with a strong ROI and encourages residents to conserve water.

"Together, the RDL8500 and TapWatch 3 software form the backbone of our wireless submetering system," explained Mark Jarman, president of Inovonics. "It gives our customers a reliable, cost-effective and easy-to-use solution for the water submetering market. This latest version of both RDL8500 and TapWatch 3 offer commercial property managers the easiest and most effective way of retrieving billing information data. It allows them to save even more time on the metering, collection and billing process while doing so in a more reliable and 'green' manner."

Designed specifically for multi-family properties, the RDL8500 sensor collects and stores all of the data and messages from a wireless submetering system, including all of the system readings for water, and, in some cases gas and electric utilities, in a multi-family property. The TapWatch 3 software provides the means for the initial programming of the remote data logger and for registering RF transmitters and repeaters used in the submetering system. It also gives authorized billing companies remote access to all of the vital data stored in the RDL8500.

Minol USA, an Inovonics customer since 2000, has been testing TapWatch 3 and the RDL8500 in multi-family and military environments. "Inovonics' TapWatch 3 software is extremely user-friendly and has many new features, such as the scheduler that enables us to gather the information from different portfolios on different days," explained Chris Stimac, field operations manager for Minol USA.

"The RDL8500 Ethernet communications capabilities gives us flexibility in installation-and combined with the new software's check-in monitor, provides the installer intelligent feedback as to the signal strength so we know the unit is at optimum performance," explained Stimac.
There are several options for communicating between TapWatch 3 and an RDL8500. As in previous versions, an analog phone line or a direct-wired connection may be used between a PC and the RDL. New to the RDL8500 is the ability to connect via Ethernet. This option requires a commercial router, a public static IP address from the ISP, and configuration of the DHCP table in the router.
Delivery of Inovonics' newest submetering solution comes on the heels of increasing legislation across the United States to mandate the use of water submetering in commercial properties (http://tiny.cc/s7ch5). Intent behind the legislation is to ensure multi-family property residents have the information they need about their water contracts and bills, as well as the comfort of knowing they can rely on fair business practices. The rules on submetering are aimed at giving residents in apartment buildings more control over their energy costs and allowing for greater water conservation.

Key benefits of the RDL8500 and TapWatch 3 software include:
- State-of-the-art connectivity via a built-in modem for remote access; support of 300 repeaters and 2,000 transmitters with new RDL8500 features. The RDL8500 supports connection to a standard telephone line. It is compatible with EchoStream Pulse Meter Transmitters (PMTs) and Repeaters.
- Powerful and expandable - the software architecture allows for faster rollout of new features in the future.
- Windows 7 compatibility and Outlook-based "look and feel" with TapWatch 3.
- Role-based access levels (Admin, Tech, View only).
- Built-in, automatic Scheduler.
- Dial-out or Dial in for RDL communications.
- SQL database.

The RDL8500 and TapWatch 3 software solution is available now.

AWWA ACE10, Chicago, BOOTH #362, June 21, 2010 -- FreeWave Technologies, (http://www.freewave.com), manufacturer of the most reliable, high-performance spread spectrum and licensed radios for critical data transmission, will be showcasing three new additions to its IO Expansion family that offer several new and improved features for water/wastewater applications in its booth (#362) at AWWA ACE10. The new FreeWave IO Expansion family is ideal for applications in the water purification and wastewater treatment industry, such as measuring and controlling intake pumps, temperature, water levels, flow rates, pressures and chemical levels. The IO Expansion line also is suited for applications in oil and gas automation, agriculture irrigation, and monitoring/control markets.
"The water/wastewater industry will benefit greatly from our new IO expansion line because it provides increased flexibility, accuracy and performance without the need to purchase an entirely new system," explained Ken Granader, vice president of sales. "Now, customers can leverage their existing investments in wireless IO - and gain up to 192 additional IO points at a fraction of the cost of buying brand new radio systems."
The IO Expansion Module is known for offering a scalable IO solution with up to 12 IO points per module. Also, up to 15 modules can be stacked on the radio or base module -- allowing up to 192 additional IO points per 15 module stack. This adds significant flexibility to an existing FreeWave Modbus IO network. Now, with the introduction of the Serial Base, expandable IO points can be added to any existing serial network regardless of manufacturer. Along with the peace of mind that goes with 100 percent temperature tested radios, users can rest assured of measurement accuracy. The 0.10 percent accuracy of analog input measurements across the entire operating temperature means that users can be confident in the reported measurements and reduce their process errors. The new form factor is fully enclosed with an integrated DIN rail clip for easy installation and maintenance. In the future, Granader says new functionality and firmware will be added to the platform and be available through firmware upgrades with FreeWave's Tool Suite configuration software.

New models and additional enhancements to FreeWave's IO Expansion family include:
- Serial Base: IOE-X-4422PC -local IO can be added to any serial equipment or serial wireless network, such as existing non-FreeWave wireless serial networks and existing PLCs or RTUs. Both solutions allow customers to increase the number of IO points without having to upgrade to new hardware.
- Radio Base: FGR2-IO-IOE - provides a wireless base for IO Expansion to any new or existing FGR serial network with up to 60 miles with line-of-sight (LOS).
- Expansion Module: IOE-X-4422-P - offers universally configurable IO expansion to either the Radio Base (FGR2-IO-IOE) or Serial Base (IOEX-4422PC).
The enhanced IO Expansion family for water/wastewater applications is now available. For more information visit, www.FreeWave.com/IO or contact FreeWave at 866-923-9948.

About FreeWave Technologies
Founded in 1993, FreeWave Technologies manufactures the most reliable, high performing, lowest power consumption, spread spectrum and licensed radios for mission-critical data transmission.

LOUISVILLE, Colo., May 13, 2010- Inovonics, (www.inovonics.com) the leader in commercial grade wireless security products, today announced the availability of the EN7286NX serial receiver interface, enabling up to 192 points of its EchoStream network to communicate directly with GE NetworX control panels.

The interface is compatible with the NX-4, NX-6, NX-8 and NX-8E panels and enables individual wireless point annunciation, assigning each device its own zone and enabling users to identify exactly where an alarm notification is originating. Before the EN7286NX was added to Inovonics' network, add-on receivers were utilized to integrate wireless points to security panels, often times requiring the grouping of several wireless end-points into a single zone.

"It's easier than ever now to add Inovonics commercial wireless to the GE control panels" said Mark Jarman, Inovonics president. "Our add-on receivers have always offered installers the ability to enhance any system with wireless capabilities, but the direct panel interface allows installers to take full advantage of their preferred panel and the Inovonics wireless network at the same time."

An additional benefit to the installer is transparency from the panel programming perspective. The manner in which transmitters/zones are programmed at the panel isn't altered from traditional wired installations.

"Wireless systems have always been easy, labor-saving installations," said Jarman. "As installations get more and more demanding, wireless companies need to continue to innovate to keep up with the scale of complexity-this panel interface is in line with that philosophy."

The EN7286NX also marks the final piece dealers have been asking for to complete an Inovonics system from the distributor. "Today a dealer can walk into their local distributor to get the GE panel, the interface, and all the wireless points and walk out with a complete system that is Inovonics ready."

WHAT: "Wireless Communication to a Plunger Lift Well"
Wednesday, May 12, 2 p.m. - 2:45p.m

In recent years, artificial lift technologies and processes have become increasingly popular as methods for optimizing oil and gas production. In addition, automation electronics manufacturers have been focusing a great deal of their development efforts on plunger lift control applications. Artificial lift is a process that allows producers to optimize well production while also minimizing overall maintenance and life cycle costs. This presentation will explain the benefits of plunger lift control automation and the newest, best, and most novel control methods that are used.

"Bringing it Together - Hybrid Wireless Systems can be Leveraged to Your Advantage"
Thursday, May 13, 10 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.

Companies with large geographically dispersed remote networks can select one technology, one source, one vendor to collect, retrieve and report data to assess the health of the network. Sometimes, this type of approach makes sense. However, other times integrating different types of technologies offer significant benefits that can easily and more cost-effectively be incorporated into one cohesive network. This presentation will provide attendees with specific ways they can set up and deploy hybrid networks to drive maintenance/monthly costs down - directly impacting their bottom line; decrease polling cycle times; reduce the time needed to identify and rectify problems within the network; and, eliminate single points of failure.

WHO: Jim Gardner
Business Development Manager, Oil & Gas
FreeWave Technologies, Inc.

Jim Gardner is a seasoned industry veteran in SCADA and data collection technologies and the oil and gas team leader for FreeWave Technologies, Inc. Prior to joining FreeWave, Gardner was vice president at Remote Operating Systems. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He currently is a member of ENTELEC, ASGMT and ISHM.

Founded in 1993, FreeWave Technologies is a world leader in the innovative design/manufacture of license-free spread spectrum, licensed band radios and wireless data solutions that are trusted for mission critical applications around the world (www.freewave.com).

WHAT: "The Evolution of Data Collection for Gas Measurement"

Evolving communication technologies are revolutionizing SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems just as new technology in drilling and production are revolutionizing the way oil and gas wells are produced. In today's oil and gas environment, production volumes are many times greater than they were just 10 years ago. The price of these natural resources is down significantly from where it was in 2008 so, for producers, it has become increasingly more important to run more cost-effective operations.

Today, more pre-planning and system design are necessary to build an expandable, scalable communications network. These systems are much more complex than the older systems but provide far greater versatility and are far more robust than the systems built 10 or 15 years ago.

BOULDER, Colo., March 8, 2010 - FreeWave Technologies, (http://www.freewave.com), manufacturer of the most reliable, high-performance spread spectrum and licensed radios for critical data transmission, today announced the latest version of its DataLogger software. This new version includes a number of enhancements and is bundled together with FreeWave's Tool Suite TM V.2.6, the latest version of FreeWave's Tool Suite platform management system. The updated software is free to all FreeWave customers.

FreeWave's DataLogger software assists in remotely monitoring and reporting cathodic protection (CP) operational values for pipelines, tanks, structures and other underground facilities that are subject to environmental corrosion in industries such as oil and gas and water/wastewater. The latest CP DataLogger offers a new drag and drop grouping feature, a tree view control to visually indicate the relationship between groups and member sites, and a more scalable database. FreeWave's Tool Suite is a software platform for managing radio configuration and network diagnostics needs from a single interface.

"We decided to incorporate our latest version of the CP DataLogger within Tool Suite V.2.6 to provide our cathodic protection customers with the benefits of Tool Suite, as well as the ability to continually install Tool Suite updates," explained Craig Held, business advisor and acting CP product manager at FreeWave. "The Tool Suite/DataLogger combined offering will have the same easy-to-install features as previous versions of the software."

Now that DataLogger is bundled with Tool Suite, FreeWave's CP customers also can take advantage of recent updates to Tool Suite, including:
- Enhanced configuration and network diagnostics, including a new radio templating feature and optimized radio settings display.
- Updated firmware.
- Additional radio support for several series of FreeWave radios, such as the I2-IO slave and CP 2.4 GHz radios.

WHAT: "Using Wireless Networking and Remote Sensor Monitoring in Pivot Irrigation"

As technology is becoming more affordable to both private and corporate farms, the use of telemetry technologies not only is creating value to businesses but being utilized in new ways. The latest telemetry trend is "wireless instrumentation" or the ability to control or monitor analog and digital signals without the constraints of wire. These signals may be used to communicate to and from the pivot to the farm to check moisture and temperature sensors, chemical soil samples, wind speed for the best time to water, and the actual pivot location and pump power usage. This capability, together with Internet access, allows the entire pivot system to be viewed anytime via a smart telephone. Steele will review how to efficiently and affordably track data for pivot irrigation farms, as well as weigh the pros and cons of newer versus traditional systems of operation.

New frequencies offer high-performance, low power and small footprint embedded solutions for sensors, UAVs, UGVs and other military, government applications

BOULDER, Colo., Nov. 16, 2009 -- FreeWave Technologies, (http://www.freewave.com), manufacturer of the most reliable, high-performance spread spectrum and licensed radios for critical data transmission, today announced the availability of the latest additions to its MM2 family of high-performance, tiny form factors: the MM2-M13 and the MM2-MU.
The MM2-M13 product line operates in the 1.3 GHz band and the MM2-MU operates in the UHF band at 340 to 400 MHz. The new radios complement FreeWave's earlier MM2 family of products that operate in the 900 MHz band with both serial and Ethernet interfaces. The two newest additions to the MM2 family offer government and military OEMs the ability to tap the MM2's tiny footprint and high-performance for space and weight critical applications, such as sensors, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs).
"The availability of these newest MM2 radios offers our customers even greater operating range, frequencies and interfaces than ever before," said Tim Stevens, product manager of embedded systems for FreeWave Technologies. "Customers expressed a need for a radio that offered all the performance and reliability as our larger form factor radios while also being compatible with their existing deployed systems. The MM2-M13 and MM2-MU uniquely address these needs today."
The new radios provide the same features and functionality as FreeWave's full-size military/government band radios. The MM2-M13 family of radios is backwards compatible with FreeWave's P Series family of radios and the MM2-MU family is backwards compatible with the company's F series wideband family of radios. This allows customers to replace their existing radios with a much smaller footprint in unmanned vehicles together with a standard size or enclosed radio at the base station or use the same base station with new UAVs. "Backwards compatibility is a key FreeWave hallmark. These FreeWave radios shipped today are compatible within their family of radios that we shipped in the beginning and with every generation since," Stevens explained. "Our customers can use the new radios in aircraft or vehicles without modifying their ground control equipment that currently uses the full size FreeWave radios." Both radios also can fit into small handheld controllers, he added.
With their light weight and small size, the new radios are the ideal communications platform for the control and monitoring of UAVs and UGVs as well as other unmanned vehicles used throughout the world. Other applications include: guided parachutes, sensor networks and many others. Light weight and small size are key factors in allowing UAVs to fly longer missions. Longer missions equate to more intelligence from the UAV - saving lives on the ground.
Features include:
- A full 2 watt (1W for the MM2-M13) transmitter power extends the range of the radio to more than 60 miles.
- Increased operating voltage to 8-30 VDC to provide broader compatibility with various unmanned systems. 5 VDC versions also are available.
- The ability to operate as a slave/repeater further extending network range and coverage.
- Receive sensitivity of - 107 dBm for BER 10-4 extending its range for longer missions and better intelligence.
- RS232/485 or TTL interface is available for easy adaptation to existing and new unmanned systems. Ethernet versions of these radios also are available providing Ethernet connectivity and two RS232 ports.
- 230.4 kbps max throughput for transferring critical data back to ground troops fast.
- 50.8mm (length) X 50.8mm (width) and 21 g (weight).

Availability
FreeWave's new MM2-M13 and MM2-MU radios are available for immediate shipment.
